Is your front wheel backwards? If you don't mind me asking, why did you decide on the Beyond wheels? How do you like them? Has there been any evidence on the benefit of the pointy bulges in the rim? Just wondering. Thanks.

Yes - did a quick change to my race wheels for the photo -> mounted the front wheel backward. Bought these wheels from Jim in Kona just after the race in 2006 - seemed to be OK wheels at a very good price (800$ for the set).

The wheels feels very fast (have done my fastest races with them), OK weight, fine for climbing and high speed decents, stiff and reasonably compliant, and are decent to handle in crosswinds. Have not had any need to adjust the spokes (16front/20back). I see no reason to get any other wheels - except a less deep front wheel for Kona's brutal cross-winds.

The same rim is used by other - Macca used an "Edge" back wheel with same rim in 2007.

Have not seen any scientific data. Had a few words with Jim at Kona this year - we think the bulges are a clever way to get the benefits of Zipp/Hed's patent without breaking the patent rules.

The front wheel had a poor bearing, changed after 2 years and < 1000 miles. Jim offered to send new bearings free of charge, but I upgraded to ceramic instead.

Not nearly as nice as just about everybike on here and it's been collecting dust while the roadie has been in comission over winter.
But I am proud to say that including the wheels this bike was built for about $900 Aus thats about $500 US at the moment so it's a bit of a bargain, and it's been faultless so far including my first IM. I think the fact that it fits me perfectly is the best this about it.

Here's the Roadie in it's current form and it's not a real Ferrari I just wanted one so I put a sticker on a frame I picked up in Singapore for another bargain.
Like the above bike the Groupo is a real bitza affair but it all works well so thats the main thing, she's a trusty stead indeed.

There are a couple of others too, but these are the 2 in use at the current.

Cheers
Matt

Still thinking about that actually. Since the stable has dwindled significantly and I do not have to hide my bikes any longer from the wife I was actually thinking of leaving it this color or actually have the red changed to cobalt blue or maybe black.

That wouldn't happen to be a reapinted Mg frame or Boron Carbide? (Griffen MMC) would it? The welds look pretty beefy for Al.
