Yep. My race pace is 1:40/100. (A yard a second). My best possible effort is 18 or 19 seconds per 25y length, and I don't think I could maintain that for 200!

Could you even with fins, a wetsuit and a snorkel? :)

thats still probably faster than some people are "running" at the end of an Ironman :)

Probably not - my all-time 100scy fins-only time was like 51 seconds, though turns are brutal with fins on. Maybe if it was 200m open-water I'd have a chance. It'd be really fun to try. I might have a go at the local LCM pool this weekend...

Personally, I'd so no, the average triathlete wouldn't be able to... however, this is what my co-worker just said (he's a two-time Olympian and held two world records in the early 80s):

"A 4th grader would kick his ass with fins. Hell, I'd break the WR in the middle of practice without pulling"

So, I'm taking his word for it.

Are there any waves in the water? There is at least 400 feet of visibility right? I can wear my wetsuit - but what if my goggle fog? Can I carry a gel or two under my wetsuit "just in case I need one" half way in?
