Re: Cervelo P5X Riser Post Clamp Snapped [CaptainSnail]

I just kinda wrecked my riser post clamp tonite, right before a race!

All I did was drop the bars a bit, then went to tighten.
It probably was up a bit because the screw wouldn't torque up. But in backing it out, it got a little cross threaded.

Took it all apart and found that the clamp seating area is a bit damaged from previous work. Plus it was not greased up - it should be so the wedge can slide.

The stem pinch bolts were loose and rounded as well (the ones to 5 nm)

I used the Cervelo supplied torque driver & it could be too aggressive. I have an automotive low-torque 1/4" ratchet and it went quite a bit easier when set at 7nm.

It's OK for now, but I am going to order a new riser post clamp and a few other bolts that are rounded off.

Hmmm - rest of thread is gone? oh well, here is my riser clamp.
The set screw is now too short because the clamp is deforming. There is a crack in the neck of the main body (see redline) and looks like gouging in the wedge part.

There was lots of carbon paste on the post, the clamp itself was dry. The clamp needs to be greased a bit for it to move properly.

I have to get a new one. IMO Inspect, lube it up and don't over-torque.
The retainer screw is tighten then back off 1/4 turn (per the manual, which is very good)
