Come on up and endure some Canadian winter and let me know what kind of delicate flowers we are. :)
I look forward to whatever heat/humidity there is. And I have raced White Lake as well.

really? what year? I will look up the results.

Heck, I will do it for you.

2004. My first Half distance. 2nd year in triathlon. It holds a special place in my heart. :)

Yup, I know. You NC folks have the lock on heat, humid temperatures. Nobody else has it as bad as you do.
i know when it you get 1cm of snow down there the cities shut down and everyone needs 2 days off work too. Poor delicate flowers. :)
I'll see you in June then.

Yeah, I am sure Waterloo would do well with 1 plow/salt truck per 100k people like charlotte has.

Your delicate flower comment just got you a free ride to/from the airport, a free place to stay in my guest room, a free barbercue and all you can drink beer post race (invite brother, sister-in-law and kids), and a free sunday morning brunch. I apprciate you calling us out and I love hanging out with Candidans. Please send me a PM if interested in my offer..At the end of the day, were all in it together for a good time...

no problem. We all have snow tires and you know, know how to drive. ;)
In all seriousness, my brother (lives in Cary) always gets a kick out of it when you guys get the freezing rain/snow combo. It would be tough to handle only getting it a couple weeks out of the year.

Which year I ve done it a bunch of times? Im pretty sure last year was about 90ish. Anyways, the point is that it would be great to have an earlier season race where you could actually see how well you have trained and not have some madmax reenactment play out where the winner is the guy that suffer through the most dehydration...

I'm glad everyone got their cheap shots in and everyone can still be friends at the end.

I've raced White Lake Half 3x and IM Louisville (going back for Louisville #2 in 24 days) so I have raced in the conditions you guys have been talking about.

Mark,

If you can give any more details about the new IM 70.3 race, I sure everyone would like to hear them

Thanks

Pink? Maybe. Maybe not. You decide.

How does White Lake NOT fulfill those desires?

I lived in Raleigh/Cary from 1993-2004. My in-laws still live there. This is a race I can get my wife excited about traveling to for a change. June doesn't work well for me because of IMTX in May.

Any idea where the race site will be? Most of the popular lakes are not close to a bunch of hotels. I'm thinking Jordan Lake or Falls Lake would be the best options if hotels weren't the concern because it would get the bike course away from harder to navigate populated areas. Lake Crabtree would probably make the most sense if hotel access were the primary logistical concern for the organizers. Lake Wheeler could be an option but there isn't shit for hotels down there either.

humans should not be exposed to lake crabtree for longer than 20 minutes/year or risk contracting several diseases. most of which are unknown and untreatable by modern medicine.

hay-i'matoughguy-craft, you train so hard in the swim you should be fine. apparantly you're also impervious to heat. just bring a course map so you don't get lost. boom.

Next time I race a cue sheet is going on my forearm.

Also, not saying I'm tough; White Lake can be a pretty miserable experience but I don't get how it isn't a good fitness test...? Enlighten me.

if we have to explain to you how temps pushing 90 degrees and no shade during 13.1 miles of running aren't conducive to meeting certain fitness/time goals, we've got more to work on with you than just navigation.

Looks like they are using Vista Point for the swim and staging for the bike portion. Hearing you may bike to downtown Raleigh and then run downtown. Same location as the Finish Strong Half in September 2012, but different bike and run courses.

Be interesting how they get 1500 plus athletes and additional spectators in and out of the area as the park only has 300 parking spots and you can't park on the side of the road on the way into the park.
