Problems with the boss....
Some of you have wives that do not take well to the purchase of new bikes. I'm in the same boat and wondering if I can combine the I'm sorry I ordered a new Argon frame the same week you found the receipt for my Quarq with her xmas present? Or if N+PM+1 = S, what should I do? In my defense, the PM is *at least* two months old and I *did* sell my old bike?!?

Try telling her your frame is cracked and they are replacing it for you. That should work.

It is very unsafe to ride with a cracked frame. I think you did the right thing. ;-)

Try putting on the pants and telling her. You don't need to be sorry for anything.

Let us know how the black eye is afterward and how long she withholds sex.

Or you can try my solution. I got doored by a parked car not too long ago. Insurance covered the replacement of the road bike, and the cash settlement covered the new MTB. The accident could have been much worse than it was however. I don't really recommend this as a "Plan" per se.

I dunno, maybe you should have discussed it with her first. You know, that whole communication thing.

I have the opposite problem. I have a crack in the frame of my 1994 Trek OCLV and I am loathe to give it up but husband is insisting on a proper tribike. Ugh.

Because women don't need to say I am sorry...at least that is what my wife says.

Worry less about your wife and more about her lawyer.

I was worried about the same thing once and then my Dad said "man, she's not going to divorce you over a bicycle, just get the F-in bike."

Jesus, man, what are you 8? How about showing her some respect by being honest.

In my house, we have money to spend - sure - but we TALK to each other before any purchase over ~1k.

I guess you have tons of disposable income so it doesn't matter where you spend your money, which is also her money. Maybe next time ask her about where you want to spend her money.

Sorry but shit like this pisses me off. It comes off as incredibly disrespectful of your wife.

Rant off.

I hope you don't rant to your wife with that mouth mr. perfect... Ahhh give the guy a break, he just said the wife has a hard time with the other bike purchase(s). Sounds like you get pissed fast. Now I feel bad for your wife, geeze.

Anyway, fast beav, might as well tell her! Do something nice for her, take her out to a romantic dinner and buy her some flowers out of the blue and talk it over. You're probably feeling guilty for spending some money on another bike maybe. Hell I feel guilty spending anything over $200 dollars on myself. You gotta spend your hard earned money on you every once in a while. My wife made a deal with me telling me that if I put up crown moulding in the rooms she wanted, I could buy whatever bike I wanted (the moulding had been something she had been wanting to do to the house for a year or so). Man I never learned a trade so fast... You just gotta open the communication up and let her have an opinion about it even though you are going to get it anyway. Of course like they always say: Communication is key, especially about finances too. I doubt you're as disrespectful as easily offended mr. perfect over here but sometimes communication makes the other feel more at ease rather than dropping bombs on them about decisions you made by yourself. It's a team effort brother! Either way she'll get over it like the other post said, she ain't gonna divorce you over a bike. It just may take a week or a few days for her to realize that it's just a bike. Now on the other hand if you got crap you gotta take care of first that requires a little money and you're ignoring it and then buying a new bike then that's a different story.
Good luck with 'the talk'!

BIngo, the rest of your reply was spot on tho - if there's already resentment or unhappiness at these kinds of big purchases, then sit the f* down and talk about it first. Sometimes you just gotta say "honey I really want that bike and here's why..." but if they give you that "go f* yerself" look after you say that, then there are waaaay bigger problems. My SO wanted a new MTB. We had some cash come our way. We could have done a number of things with it, but I knew he really wanted one - so we talksed about it, and lo and behold he got one. But he sure didn't as hell go behind me and hide it from me.

Remember: these are just things.

Sometimes it has to be about the person and not the things.

Good luck to the OP.

What did you do for her first? Women are actually fairly simple, just put them first and they let you do/have whatever you want. BUT, you have to really do it - emotionally and secularly. IF you do that AND you can afford it, she will let you do whatever you want.

My wife and I discuss any major purchase over $500 unless it comes to presents (plus she deals with the money anyway). You could always say the bike was for her but they shipped the wrong size and gosh darn it all it fits you perfectly.

How would you feel if you discovered your wife had gone out and bought a $4K jacket and you only found out when one of her friends asked you "Don't you just love her new coat?"

This is more about honesty than finances.

Damn, I thought this was a thread about work bosses as I wanted to rant.....so going to rant anyway. My boss once asked me if I thought I was great because I did triathlons and if it meant I could take him in a fight.....this is a 50+ man! I did come very close to punching him straight in the face there and then and to this day think he's a total wanker.....

Thanks you for letting me have my rant.....carry on now
