Pro Triathlete from Boulder, exchanging BIB
Quote | Reply
Valentino Agnelli (18yrs) just turned tri pro and living and training in Boulder.
Today he ran the Miami Half Marathon with somene’s BIB 16728 (M55-59) and won the AG.
Why?
What a shame?
For what?
What can you expect in his pro career??

So what?
Will TriArg care? Do you care?
Why/for what? Running for fun and likes competition, like any normal person. Teenage admin.
And born 2003 so not 18, btw.
Tri Pro career: I wish him the best of luck. What do you wish?
Let'sRun is that way >>>>>

I wish people respect the rules.
And the right and honest runner, receive the award.
Why not pay $100 and run with his own bib?
Cheater is cheater… draft, bib exchange, doping.

If I was in the 55-60 AG I would care and I do agree with MTRIB seems like a dumb think to do.

you can report him to marathoninvestigation.com. but if he is dumb enough not to at least rip off his timing chip, should have his pro card removed.

I wish he wouldn’t help others cheat

I wish he would follow the rules and if he wanted to race sign up and have is own number

I wish for him to realize why banditing a race is problematic and make better decisions in the future

Thanks for that! I’m inspired - I’m gonna get some “ride” “bikes” tats all on my quads too…and maybe my knuckles…and my eye lids so I don’t forget what’s important when I’m sleeping.

How is Agnelli "helping others cheat" - or is this a shout out against the old bloke who was injured?
This young Lamb is running with someone else's number (which I don't condone, nor do I shout 'shame'), but "cheating"? Come on: who is being cheated? No chance he's getting a prize in the 55 AG cat, is there?
Share your knowledge @chemist on why running with someone else's number is problematic: the only aspect which is problematic is an identity issue if there's a medical problem: what else?
Or is this another sly dig at Laidlow and the practice kona swim debacle? But he's 24 and should know better. Cut this young man some slack: it's not as if ST outrage is going to have any effect at all on him or other athletes who want a race but haven't got their admin act together.
Anyway, it would be good to know what time he ran - sub-71?

It's unethical.

Once, I was fast. But I got over it.

He should be publicly shamed a little, but then let's move on. Cancelling people entirely has gotten completely out of control. People can't improve if not given the chance. When you never made a mistake and changed, let's talk.

Is the time he ran for the “old bloke” listed in the official times? If so then it’s cheating

Yes. Running with someone else’s number is potential medical issue. Which is why the large majority of race directors say it is against the rules. There doesn’t need to be other problems beyond this for back door race number swapping to be an issue

I'm friends with a lot of RDs. I know bib swapping is not allowed for good reasons. And I'm solidly against it.

That said, these things are not all equal.

Too old to go pro but doing it anyway

How do people know he didn't ask the race director beforehand? Or am I missing something in among all this righteous fury?

That's what I was thinking too. IF we are going to out the bloke and shame him, he should be ashamed of running 82 minutes for a Half marathon.

Wouldn't win his AG with that time let alone a pro race.

it is a shame for the sport: we are forces to pay expensive registration costs for running a race, many months in advance and without the opportunity to cancel or to give the bib to another athlete. To be honest: It shall be possible to change the athelete till bib number pick up (only if qualification is NOT needed, of course), and always as amateur.

I raced once wit the bib number of another person, but I would never cross the finish line in this situation, and I didn't take the medal.
