Are there perhaps any details or more info you could/want to already share since you had some ideas or plans for one already I believe? :)

I have thought about your question. It is one that I have gotten from a number of athletes and it deserves an answer. I'm fine with the truth so the following are my thoughts.

It comes down to a business decision and a "company vision" decision.

There are currently a large enough selection of disc brake tri-bikes on the market. The good ones (1-3 or so) are all within what I consider really good offerings (high priced but good bikes) - so if what an athlete wants is a disc brake tri-bike they have some choices.

I have all the CAD drawings, CFD information etc.., etc.. to do a very good Tactical disc brake bike. I have had that work done for about 15 months. We would also be in the top 1-3 bikes to choose - from from a storage, aero, quality, components perspective; if I move forward.

We sold about 800 bikes as a company since our first sale in November 2016 and broke even on the investment about a year ago. About what I expected.

We have not sold a lot of bike since the shut down (not much inventory to sell) but many of the costs are now "kind-of-build-in" so we could do much better moving forward from a profit per unit basis moving forward with another bike.

I have not been able to travel to Taiwan for 14 months. I do this type of work face-to-face so that is an issue. Its' too important to allow mistakes at our size company.

I am currently helping other companies designing products and am manufacturing for sale OEM items to other companies and am busier than I have been in the past few years.

65% of athletes say they don't want a disc brake Tri-bike according to the most recent Slowtwitch poll. So, do I go against the industry and make another rim brake bike which is faster? Already developed? More profitable? Are races going to resume soon?

These are the questions. The numbers and risk are significant.

Count me among them. I didn’t really want a disc road bike. But yet after buying a disc road bike, I didn’t want to deal with different parts, wanted to be able to swap wheels etc so I’m building a disc Tri bike. Just something to keep in mind. I don’t think The poll tells the whole story for many of us.

Thanks for the elaborate response!

As DFW said, I don't need a disc tri bike. But if I were to buy a new one I would almost expect most of the offerings to be disc and with my 1.5 year old Cannondale SystemSix being disc brake, being able to swap wheels is a nice option to have as long as the aero penalty on the TT bike doesn't make it slower than my current Speed Concept.

Then again, a faster rim brake bike would certainly also be really interesting!

Dan,

I’m packing up my M Speed Concept in the premier bike case, but the case around the base at is really tight. I can get the zipper to close, but it’s really tight. Is that okay? I’m trying to avoid having my basebar cracked when I get to my destination.

Yes - it should be fine as long as the basebar is 42 cm or less. If you have the new case (red zipper) use the black straps so you don’t have outward pressure on the zipper.

The 42cm max spec is measured center-to-center of the basebar (don't measure from outside to outside). See W1:

well now you have my brain in a pretzel. my IA basebar is 42 cm C-C but with the tape on the bullhorns and the di2 levers it's more like 46 cm edge to edge. I asked Dan and according to him this won't fit, which was really too bad as the only other option I can see would be a Bike box Alan.

Mine in JUST at 45 cm and it “fits.” Honestly, had I known ahead of time, I don’t know if I’d get this case for a speed concept. I’m using it because it works, but it’s a tight squeeze

How tight of a fit is it? Is there any room to hollow out some material on the inside of the case with a dremmel to make a bit more room?

The base bar is pushing against each side pretty hard. I can still zip the case up, but there’s certainly some pressure laterally on the base bar.

No room to dremel. I took out some of the foam and added some of my own around the basebar to give it a little bit more room.

What tire value extender size do we need for the 88mm wheel? I have a tire and the valve wont fit through the opening. I also need to purchase another extender.

I use the Silca 42 mm valve latex tubes with a 70mm valve extender from them as well.

I searched and hadn’t seen this answered before…are the wheels able to run tubeless? I’ve never gone tubeless before but am looking into options now. From what I’m seeing, it’s potentially faster, more comfortable, and less likely to flat.

I have not made an announcement yet but all our wheels both 700c and 650c will be tubless ready beginning August 1st. We will include rear disc, 88 and 45 mm deep; and front 45 and 88 deep in both rim brake and disk brake models.

The wheels have been designed for 23, 25 and 28 mm tires. You can still run tubes and clinchers if you wish.

They will come with tubless rim tape, tubless valves, valve tool, extra presto valve and sealant kit.

All the wheels will come with hybrid ceramic bearings and super fast inner paw design.

Stay tuned!!
