Polar Infrared Link (Any Model)
Does anyone have any clue as to how to tranfer data to your PC using the infrared monitor?

I have the Polar S725x - and I have the USB infrared thing plugged and installed into my computer and I also have the software installed.

Is there anything else I need to do?

I have even put the watch into CONNECT mode but still to no avail.

Any advice appreciated,

Go to Tools and hit Connect. If that doesn't work go to Options and make sure you have it on the right port.

I put my watch on CONNECT, place it facing the IR device, open the software, select the "Connect to HR monitor" option and it will download the data. The first part of the download will download the exercise files; I then click on the exercise files button and it downloads all of the details.

when you click the HRM button in the Polar Software do you see the LED blink on the infared device?

If no, I would start here: http://support.polar.fi/...nsf/Library?OpenForm

here is the miracle!

Mine was working "slow" and had connection problems with polar USB infrared thingy (white one with a cord) got the new small usb device for $30 at the expo and works like a magic, my assumption is you don't need a POLAR brand you can get any USB infrared to make it work.

I just got one of these and it works like a charm. Why does polar feel the need to charge $40?

I am assuming you told the program to connect to the watch?

When you installed the driver for the USB Infrared Interface, did you already have the device plugged in? You shouldn't have. Remove the device, and re-install the driver.

Check to see which port the software is trying to use.

Is this a laptop or desktop? Do you have any other IR ports on it?

Do you get the weird 'IR device in range' noise from Windows?

What version of Windows? Do you have all the Windows Updates installed?

I have not had any problems with my S710i with about 5 different machines, laptops, desktops, Win98, XP, built in IRdA, or the Polar interface.

If I restart my computer I wait until it's back on then I have to unplug then re-plug in the USB infrared device. After that all goes well. If I don't unplug it it doesn't connect.

good luck

Woah - thanks for all the help,

So Swimfan, yeah I stopped by that booth at Accenture's expo and picked up one of those shiny Polar USB thingies as well because original watch came without.

Anyhow, have plugged USB in, have set watch to connect mode. When I go into the HR program I go to Tools > Connection >

then a Window pops up saying "Infrared Connection: Connecting to wrist unit" and there is a LED flashing animation. But nothing happens.

The USB dongle shiny thingie does not light up either.

I'll probably do the usual I.T. response and "re-boot and then re-install"

Okay UPDATE:

Now the USB dongle LED is flashing red intermittently

and the watch (under the CONNECT mode) says Infrared, and is repeatedly flashing 'COM'.

I have the right side of the watch facing the USB dongle

But the computer is still just saying 'connecting to wrist unit'

restarting...

Turn the watch upside down when you put it near the "white thingie." If that doesn't work just call tech support and they will walk you through it.
