Philadelphia Triathletes

Hey all,

I just moved to Philly about two weeks ago and I’m in the middle of training for Kona. Any advice is greatly appreciated on where to ride, the routes I’ve done have a sh*t ton of turns and not the best to stay in the bars.

Anyone is also welcome to ride, As for myself I’m an interior designer and looking for work as well :) efecerocinco.com - that’s my website.

Thanks,

Felipe

Hi there

I don't live in Philly, but I do visit my wife's family there often. I've done the route below twice for IMTX and Kona prep, goes almost to Lancaster and back (starts on the main line - I drive to a Lowes parking lot at the start). A few traffic lights but overall a nice country highway with wide shoulders. Just watch out for the horse and buggies!

Head to the Jersey shore. Especially this time of year. Loads of triathletes and plenty of long bike/run segments.

Welcome to Philly. Its multiuse trail and flat, the Schuylkill River Trail works though it can get busy. https://schuylkillrivertrail.com/ Riding out west of phonenixville in delco/chesco is really great. Here's a file of a ride I would do variations of training for IMLP. I'm slow so nevermind the metrics - https://ridewithgps.com/trips/36810004

I was in the area 2 weeks ago getting our daughter moved in a school. Road 100 miles mostly in Lancaster County . . . probably the most picturesque ride I have ever done . . . loved it! Although not mountainous, it was punchy and challenging. Cool area. Lancaster County and Delaware County Bike Clubs have lots of rides on their sites. would echo all who have said SRT....you can go almost until the end, hop off and get on Rt. 23 and stay on that for a long, long while.....SRT totally flat, 23 is nice rollers...farm country not many cars and wide open.

Investigate the Pine Barrens. Only issue is you have to drive there and it's relatively flat.

Cadence Racing Philadelphia is a great group that can provide a ton of resources and training opportunities. Many of the athletes in that group lurk on this forum.
