Paris Nice TT and visors
While watching one thing jumped out was the number of riders (seemed like all) wearing visors. Searched and found some conflicting (older) threads on visors. Any new data and or personal experiences in the wind tunnel. I'm not one to just adopt what the pro tour guys do (they get paid to ride "x"), but to see so many, all with various helmet sponsors/and more money to be made selling sun glasses to the masses, makes me think that a visor is faster and the way to go.

It didn't seem to have hurt the winner Larson.

Other observations, Why did Voeckler have a water bottle behind his seat?It just looked stupid and out of place.

The visor is pretty much always faster. With some helmets/glasses it might be less of an advantage, but a visor is pretty much always faster. It is hotter, though, and can make it harder to get the helmet on, which is probably why you don't see them more often in triathlon.

More space for sponsor logos?
Saw that too and now thinking how short the race was, silly.

Voeckler isn't alone in doing that, a lot of the Rabobank guys do to. They all look stupid mind you but maybe they think its faster?

MOST guys are faster with visors (but not all). Levi wasn't using one as well and never has and I'm fairly certain he has test both in wind tunnel. Of course his position if quite a bit different than most. That doesn't mean that all pro riders have been to a wind tunnel and tested both, but I'm sure most of the big name TT specialists have.

Might have a little to do with who has sunglass sponsors and who doesn't? Also, for years the only real helmet/visor option was Louis Garneau and if you weren't racing that, you were racing another brand with an LG visor taped to or somehow affixed to your brand helmet. Now there are a lot more options for aero helmets that come with built-in visors. The Specialized helmet doesn't have a visor (to my knowledge) which may explain why you don't see Tony Martin sporting a visor.

Possibly - but I don't think so. Results matter and even 1-2 secs can matter a bunch at the pointy end of a time trial. Also, I'd wager all the big name teams have a "sunglass sponsor" - they can put em' on after on the podium for even greater exposure ;-)

Also may have been because it was wet and overcast. Did anyone else notice that Taylor Phinney's skinsuit looked ripped open at the finish? Probably cost him a few seconds.

I didn't notice that, but I thought it would be funny if it popped out over a bump.

Anyone else notice that almost everyone stayed in the big ring and cross chained it up the hill? What is the advantage in doing that?

If you look very closely at the photos f Levi it appears (to me at least) that he is wearing a clear visor and sunglasses under it.

I don't think it comes with one but they might have modified it with one: Tom Boonen.

Maybe he was using it as ballast to improve handling? :)

Not dropping the chain and the FD shift is "slow". I'm sure the bikes are well adjusted but I bet almost everyone has had a misshift on a FD at one point in time.

I wondered the same thing. Why did Voeckler have a bottle behind his seat? It didn't seem necessary in such a short tt.

I wonder if he was just testing equipment or trying to market the Selle Italia Optima Teknologika.

There is of course the fair bit of research suggesting that just the taste of sugar in your mouth will cause you to be able to push a little harder, instantly.

sometimes I have a wee bit of gatorade to swig, though I certainly don't *notice* this effect.

Did anyone else notice that Phinney was using an Adamo saddle? :-)

What are those reflections above his glasses if they are not from a clear visor?.

And in this photo the part of his helmet right above his glasses magically turned gray
