Are you talking about Gulf Coast?

Best place to stay are the condos onsite (via vrbo)

Are you meaning the Gulf Coast Triathlon? It is a half-iron distance, but it is not a 70.3 race. It is the Saturday of Mother's Day weekend. The 2012 race will be the 30th year. The host hotel, Boardwalk, is long in the tooth and needs to be taken down and rebuilt. The onsite condo's are great! They tore down some of the hotelsd a few years back and built the nice condos.

I'd love to do this race (Panama City is fantastic) but just can't swing it this year. Can't image how hot the run is going to be.

Ironman Panama 70.3 is going to be a fantastic race. I've had the opportunity to see the courses, transition and finish line and I'm very impressed with the venue. The roads pavement is great as the bike course uses a major hwy.that will be closed to traffic. Run course is along the Panama Canal with water views on both sides. Traveling to Panama is very easy and the currency is American dollars. Z

Yea my girlfriend is from there and is racing. Although the run is not technically along the canal, but along the Amador Causeway, you can see the ships waiting to enter the canal by the Bridge of the Americas on the pacific side. Still a beautiful run course and the bike is gonna be a BEAST!

Does anyone have a .gpx or .3dc file for the Panama 70.3 course?

I'm going. Heading down (from Toronto) on Feb 1, returning Feb 15.

I've booked a room at one of the 2 sponsoring hotels for the nights before and after the race. Otherwise I'm staying w. friends about an hour out of the city.

I have a course that's close to the bike course, but not precisely it for the CT. I'm waiting for a new GPS file from someone down there and will generate a more accurate .3dc course (of the revised route - did you notice they changed it recently?).

I'll post the new .3dc as soon as I have it.

Sure.. I have 3 versions that are all similar, none are the new route but they'll give you a feel for it. Not sure how to upload... so I stuck them on my blog...

I'm in. Staying at the Wyndham Gardens, one of the host hotels. Thought about Country Inn & Suites, but the Wyndham is only 2 miles from transition and closer to the heart of downtown. They said they will have some transportation available race morning. Planning on getting in Fri early afternoon and flying out Monday morning. What about a ST gathering Sunday night post-race?

Also just watched the promo video--the entire bike course is closed to traffic during the race, even part of the PanAmerican highway. Sounds pretty cool!

We are doing the EST ground package, so might be the same place? After seeing the sign in the video, I'm all about drinking after the race! Boss says we are staying at RIU. Will do some research on good local for meeting up!

Do you have the new bike course for Panama in .gpx or .3dc format? I'll definitely take it if you have it... you can email me at rick-at-internalmonoblog.com

Cool. I think the Wyndham is a block or two from the Riu. Riu looks like it might be the place for a post-race party. OBTW, I will be racing in yellow/black Cyclonaut multisport kit. Say hi if you pass me on the course:-)

I just found out we are leaving on the late flight out Sunday. I'll be the guy @ the finishline drinking a Balboa, maybe the boss can bring a few extras! Hopefully my Oregon State kit will be here in time.

I'm resurrecting this thread in the hopes that one of you that raced may have a race report and/or your general travel pros/cons. I'd like to take the wife on an early vacation next year. We would possibly travel with EST so any thoughts on your experience there as well.

Thank you in advance
Trav

Go with Ken. We were living in Costa Rica, fluent in spanish, and still knew it would be best. It was great to have them there to hand all of the hassles. We showed up and they too care of everything. Joseph, one of his guys, took me to dinner with a former multi time chap of IMBrazil and later introduced me to most of the pros in our hotel.

Pros- Swim (canal was fast) Bike (you ride over the freakin bridge of the Ams!) Roads are perfect. Run awesome support. City is amazing, crowds were great.

Cons- They called 94 deg cool, humidity made me want to die, LA was there, transitions were LONNNNNNNGGGGG, can't have a bare midriff or go topless (by law), a buddy from CR got hit by a cab the day before right out side of the finishing area.

Will be making this a permanent addition to my calendar.
