I had the pleasure to take this photo of Vanessa with my kids, kid’s friends and wife just a few minutes after she got down from the podium. She is a very nice girl.

The sea was relatively rough and it was windy for Mazatlan standards at this time of the year. My kids had a hard time negotiating the waves a day before. They did fine but some kids could not pass the breakers and came out escorted by the lifeguards, scared and frustrated.

I am glad Vanessa won and I hope I get to see her win many more.

Dude, it's her FOURTH World Cup win!

I was with her at the pool on wednesday and asked her how she felt before the race. As usual she said that she didn't feel that good, she's always like that. I replied that I had seen the start list and that I thought she would win... her reply, the usual "naaahhh..." :-)

She's an amazing talent and I think she'll dominate the WC circuit in the next few years. She is truly amazing, and has a great personality.

No, she won the ITU Worldcup in Madrid in 2003, the European Championships in 2004, the ITU Worldcup in Madrid and the ITU Worldcup finals in Rio de Janeiro in 2004.

PORTUGAL !!! in ITU.... and Megali Messmer comeback [ In reply to ]

Megali (Di Marco) Messmer (Swiss Sydney triathlon bronce medalist) did her worldcup comeback in Mexico after a 4 year break. She was 4th 3:12 behind Vanessa Fernandes.

Since everybody seems to correct each other in this thread, actually Magali did race at the end of last year on the world cup circuit already. So it's not her comeback (as in first WC race since she retired after Sydney).

But you are right that she is on a comeback path though. And not yet at her 2000 level for running, but she'll be there soon. One of my best friends is her swim trainer, and she is already looking good in that leg according to him.
