"Kashechkin who was in 8th place before the team leaves the tour has tested positive to homologous blood transfusion..."

i wonder about the team in general. we saw a first and second in the Giro TT (mazzoleni and savoldelli) and we saw some pretty good riding from kashechkin, kloden and vino). do we not now have 3 out of those 5 formerly either testing positive or under investigation? it seemed to me after some very very good TT finishes they either had good drugs or those BMCs were special bikes. nothing against the BMC, but it seems perhaps more than your average number of blood cells might have something to do with it. i don't think savoldelli or kloden are under any cloud as of yet, right? or did i miss something? but it's not got to be good for their reputations to be on a team where one after another is getting popped.

here's a thought: if all the teams are putting clauses in their contracts about doping, can individual riders do the reverse? ie, can a rider get a free release from a team if the team gets thrown out/withdraws for doping?

that's a very good question.

On the other thread where this was mentioned (the one about Contador's Friday announcement) it was proposed that they either need a better labeling system or riders whose dogs do not have the same name. ;-)

Vino and Kashechkin are related now...it'll be like that Seinfeld episode where Jerry gets some of Kramer's blood.

Kasshechikin is going to want to attack all the time...even on bike rides with his kids...

Whwn contador says he doped in the tour on friday, will discovery retroactively pull the whole team out, leaving Leipheimer out of his wanted podium spot?

The clauses are really just "smoke" anyway. Kind of like an employer making you sign a clause that you won't steal any pens or "time" in the office. You'll sign it even if you clearly know that you'll steal a few pens and paper and spend an hour a day on Slowtwitch.

I don't think it would work like that. Even when Rasmussen pulled out, Contador had to wait for him to DNF a stage to take the yellow jersey.

Does it mean there is still hope to know who won in 2006 before who wins 2007???

Yes! The Flloyd arbitration has had a track record of being super speedy thus far! No reason to slow down now.

I don't think anything concrete, but it sure doesn't look good on Kloden that half of his former teammates at T Mobile(Zabel, Vino, Aldag, Sinkewitz, Jaksche)have confessed, are under investigation, or have tested positive, or, that he and jan are so close.

Different situation. Rasmussen was pulled by his own team. Not a TDF decision.

No, the TDF would "invite" Disco to leave. Thus Evans wins and Carlos Sastre & Co [CSC] end up with 2nd place on the Podium after all :-) and also move up in the team standings to 2nd to go along with the 2 stage wins and 8 days with the Yellow Jersey.

Now that is pretty darn funny....

But I guess the TDF of both races will end up without an official winner (or someone who's name ends with an *).

In 2004 cofidis let astarloa out of his contract after their doping scandal so that he could sign with a different team.

On a side not the issue with mazzolini is not a 2007 issue. He's currently under investigation for a 04 (I think) investigtion. The one they call oil for drugs.

yeah, i saw that. and i don't know whether the case against him bears serious merit or not. it's just that astana is having a rash of bad luck with drug news that unfortunately casts its other riders, and its sponsors, in a bad light.

" a rash of bad luck"

Other teams to have suffered from a similar rash: Festina, Liberty Seguros, Kelme, Phonak, Casino...

yes, and this always makes one wonder whom are the innocent parties getting swept up. it would be a real shame if kloden turns out to be clean, yet spent his career on two dirty teams.

It worked for a guy on Cofidis in 2004; one Igor Astarloa. Also known as the rainbow jersey wearer. When Cofidis was suspended from racing and listed as non-partant at Roubaix, he was released from his contract and signed with Lampre.

That's one way to look at it. However, I look at it a little differently. Even if he were clean his entire career, he's profited from the illicit behavior of others. Mostly likely he knowing profited from this, given the seemingly institutionalized doping at T-Mobile, and the apparently rampant doping on a team founded by Manolo Saiz.

Cycling is a team sport, and turning a blind eye to your teammates' behavior makes you guilty in my book. Does any reasonable person think he had no knowledge of his teammate's doping on T-Mobile or Astana? And that's assuming he's completely clean himself...

Knowing how Pro teams work, I find it hard to believe that in the best case Kloeden didn't know about his teammates, and in the worst case, isn't on the same page as everyone else.

Blood Doping make benefit glorious nation of Kazakhstan? Not really, I'd be amazed if Astana is around next year with their two poster boy Kazaks both out for blood doping.

Who knows what the Contador announcement will mean. but if won't strip Levi of his podium, since Contador didn't test positive. If he admits to doping, he'll lose the title, but the team won't be sanctioned (only have their image tarnished, it could affect their team title though, when you exclude his results from each stage).
