I had a Magic School Bus 'ocean' computer game when I was little. You could go down to the bottom of the ocean and see the really scary deep dark fish/eels. Lots of them have their own little "lights."

30 mile ride, a little time goofing around petting the cat, then 5.2 mile run with speedwork (1-2-3-4 min @ 6:40, 4 min @ 6:31, 4 min @ 6:23 pace with 1 min recoveries), 45 min yoga. Now I'm working on my thesis.

I only remember the Magic School Bus episode traveling through the digestive system. They got as far as the colon, watching the poop dry out and make its way out the poop hole. I don't think they exited that way... not sure.

Anyway, back to swimming...

Remember how I complained the last time I swam at lunch that it's really hard for me to swim if I haven't run beforehand (ie I need a good pre swim warmup)? Today I just started in my wetsuit. It was fun. I wore it for about 1800 yds then took it off.

8.5 mi run this AM
lunch swim - 2500 yds - just goofing off since I haven't been in the pool in 7 days.

When I get in the pool without having done anything else, the first thing that fatigues are my legs. Within 200 yards, they feel like I'd be better off cutting them off. By 500 yards, they feel fine and I can start picking the effort up. Yesterday, I walked to the pool - about a mile, and got right into swimming and my legs felt great. Knowing this, before the tiki swim, I jogged on the beach about a mile before I got in to warm-up swim.

It's the cold water that makes swimming without prior w/u hard for me. My body just can't generate enough heat to be able to swim fast.
re : legs - I usually foam roll after I run. If I don't do that, my legs are worthless in the pool.

back to schoolwork

It's still monsooning here in the afternoons so going to the pool anytime after 3 (the only time I can go) is pretty much a crapshoot whether there will be lightning or not. Got in a sold workout yesterday though

I jumped in, have not been swimming AT ALL. Did 1500 yesterday and it was way harder than I imagined it would be. Hopefully by Dec/Jan I will get some form back.

It's still a little dark at 6:30 AM here. Plus, the pumps are off and they have no backup lighting in the locker rooms/showers. ... and any excuse the guards can muster up to not really have to work, as if it's a hard working job as it is!!

Plus, you never know how widespread the outage might be. Last time it was a huge part of Southern California and it took me nearly an hour and a half to go 12 miles to home. Fortunately, it seems to be just the pool surroundings.

run: 4.9 mi with 3 x 0.25 mi and 1 mi @ 6:40 pace
swim: 3500 scy

300 w/u
4 x 50 on :50
4 x 100 on 1:35 (1:20s)
500 on 7:00 (6:42)
3 x 150 easy on 2:40
4 x 50 on :50
10 x 100 on 1:30 (1:20-1:17)
3 x 150 on 2:40 easy, scull any four of the 50s

I had planned to ride after I ran, so I got all kitted up, got my bike, flat on the rear wheel. That happened Sunday - I fixed it (well, I tried to patch the tube but apparently it didn't work). So back to the gym, realized I only had half of my swimsuit (there's an argument against two pieces), back to get swimsuit, finally ready to swim. Glad I wound up in the pool because my lats were completely in charge of that water this morning. My palms were and are sore from the powerful catches.

I'd never consider a two piece swimsuit!
Great swim set you had.
I pulled something in my back this AM. Shortened my w/o:

500 swim
5x100 various kicks
2x[25fl/50bk/75br/100fr]@10sRI

1500 sc yardages

Now I'm sitting at my work desk, tilting to the left... owwww.

Whoa! Nice set. I'd love to do more like that, but I only have 40 minutes max in the AM and that's pretty much my only swim opportunity if I plan to bike and run some, as well.
