No swim. No run. Could you hang with the lead pack at Kona on the bike?

Legally drafting etc. Can you put out the watts needed to stay in the pack with the big boys for 4.5 hrs ish?

hide a motor to your bike just not sure how long it can go without refueling :)

Maintain an average speed of almost 25mph for 112 miles? Heck no!

would depend on what's at stake. If my life depended on it I could probably do anything. If it was a notmal race situation...no way!

Yes, the lot of a could write "no I couldn't"

I'm curious of anyone here thinks they actually could. What does the main pack push in avg watts for the bike?

I could ride away from most of those hacks.

No.
However, looking at Luke McKenzie's power data from last year it isn't as daunting as it may seem.
Time: 4:21
NP: 271W
AP: 257W
TSS: 294
VI: 1.05
Speed: 25.5mph
Cadence: 86RPM

Lol, I think Paul Ryan did under 4 hours on the bike.

So if he was riding at 75% of FTP, then someone in the range of 360 could probably hang easily. Less if under my scenario where this is a straight up TT with no swim or run involved.

Based on the peak power thread, it would seem there are quite a few who could do this!

Exactly. To these guys 280W is nothing. To me that's almost my FTP.

I can hold that speed for an hour (oly distance). A full IM? Holy fuckety fuck no way.

with no run and no swim, the lead pack would be pushing faster than 25 mph....unless the question revolves around them having the swim and run but you/we don't

I could probably train to 280w for 112.... but that won't push me 25.5mph.... so no. I couldn't hang.

I was watching Kona 2007, I was just telling my wife yesterday that I would never be able to open swim, bike or run any one split as fast as these guys do in an IM.

Yes, I think I could give it a pretty good go. And it's not a function of having the big watts; I don't.
It's just that I go pretty fast for the watts I do have.

And, assuming that I was part of a relay (ie: bike only), they all were doing the full race (as per normal) and got to "legally draft" w/ the Pros,
then sure - why not? **

** this may not be remotely possible, and certainly the premise can and will never happen, but no harm in daydreaming.

There we go! Finally got a taker! I'm sure there are plenty more that could but don't think they can.

I think I could maybe hang with an itu pack, but that's hardcore drafting around flatter courses so...

As for IM, I'd need to do some serious consistent training to get past 2 hours!

If 4.7 watts per K will do it then, yes......
