Anyone know a good cheap road bike that is used for training only. Not racing, dosent have to be light or anything just handle alot training. Around $500 would be great! I am new to this so ask me anything that would help you decide which bike is best.

Best bet is to jump on Craigslist or Facebook marketplace and scan the ads in your area. You should be able to find a good, used road bike for $500.

Make sure you buy a bike that fits you properly.

Craigslist is tricky - esp at that price point. People will buy worn-out rides to save a few bucks.

It's more important you get what fits your needs and the right frame sizing. So I would start at a LBS that has street/commuter sales for that money.

I spend a lot of time riding a flat bar, for city. I have a Brodie Energy, disc brakes and trigger shifting is so fast almost rivals the eTap. The 32 tires WTB tires on it are surprisingly good. The drivetrain is heavier version of Ultegra. This bike cost $995 CAD on a 2018 get-rid-of-it sale.

I duke it out with dudes on Specialized, Giants or Cervelo's no problem.

I am also riding a single speed bull horn thing I got for $300 CAD, from a friend who couldn't ride it. It's a tri bike without the aero bars. It's the Stout by Moose cycles. This thing is fast! Has aero wheels. The brakes are a bit scary because I am so used the the tri position and they are actually up at the stem! It's a cheap bike because they make them en-mass in China, just slap a different brand label.

Road bikes are more $$ because of the group-sets and less mass production.

Trek 1.1. Look for used in your size.

If you want something new, Bikesdirect has cheap bikes. They cut corners on certain components compared to the big brands, but the quality is decent and the bike will be solid. The components they use may just be slightly heavier and have older technology...not a problem for a training bike.
