New Endura Aero Helmet and Time Trial Suit

In the race to be as fast as possible and save watts here and watts there, much time and effort has been spent micro-engineering the bicycle to the finest detail. But if Endura's aerodynamics specialist Simon Smart is to be believed, the development of aerodynamic clothing is lagging five years behind.

The helmet looks good. Might be the best fit for my position to replace my aging Bell Javelin.

If the full-aero to aero-road conversion is as easy as it looks, we might be able to put an end to this "should I buy an aero-road helmet instead of a full-aero in case it's hot?" threads. The one helmet to rule them all...

I got the endura tri suit late last year... I have an older Smart TT suit as well.

The helmet I do have interest in... my Specialized Sworks TT I've had for awhile and is hard to get on.

Zero interest in the helmet reviewer mentions how noisy it is, probably due to the 2 piece design.

Do they have a trisuit coming? Maybe I can grab the silicone caulk and add some chevrons to my old trisuit ;)

I saw that on Bike Radar. As soon as a TT suit is available for order I plan to pick one up. If they make a tri suit I hope at least part of the upper is white or some other light color along the lines of the new Roka suit.

At an average cost of $500+ dollars (370 GBP) I'll be breaking out my caulk gun also.

I'm closer to the feathered end of the spear than the point.

I split my Castelli trying to get into (got fat during off season) so I need a new suit regardless. Might as well spend the extra $100. I’ve got big shoulders/arms so the right texture should do *something* for me... even though past testing, both in the tunnel and the field, has proved otherwise.

Bolle tried the 'one helmet to rule them all' moniker and failed badly lol. This, however, looks like a good helmet with the tail intact in comparison to the atrocious bolle aero road helmet.

I found the sworks slips forward on my head and every now and again I have to manually move it back. And yep its something you have to fold over your ears when putting it on. Bought a giro aerohead, its much better. stays still, and just plonk it on your melon, good to go. Just a thought!

yeah you gotta tighten it up after putting it on... so it does not slide. Kills me ears for sure.

This may be a bit off topic, but our team did custom sublimated BP 3.3s. A 185$ a piece with custom team colors. That was a really nice surprise compared to the usual 300ish and the only ones I ever see on sale are the pumpkin colored ones in X and XL.

Yeah, a proper TT lid that can function as an aero-road lid is probably a better approach than "this not-even-aero road lid can be your everything helmet".

Looks like any colour so long as it's black

Whoa, for $185 I wouldn't think twice for a Castelli BP. How big was the order?

Dang... last year Castelli told me no custom bp3.3's. (although I do see it on their website now)
Hope my Trip suit ends up being faster.

Impressive numbers... both the data and the price :D

Unfortunately cost and published #'s haven't done much in helping me divine the fastest skinsuit historically.

Take a look at the suit data.

Something odd there.

yea! As speed increases you expect a stretchy material suit to get worse and worse not faster.

Competitor A is likely the BP 3.3. As tight as a TT suit fits, the fact that it's fabric with no structure really isn't of relevance. It's all about the texture and how that affects airflow.

Minimum order was 5 so it wasn't hugely difficult to fill, though I can't imagine doing it two years in a row.

I looked at the data from Cycling Weekly and I would guess that A is the Bioracer. I think that suit worked better the faster you went. D is probably Assos. That one isn't fast. I think Simon Smart said trip strips aren't very tune-able, so they can drop off once you get past their sweat spot. I would think you would design for low 30ish mph to cover the fast UK road and track crowd. Using this guess/info will pick C for the NoPinz. That leaves B as the Castelli. I am fiddling with some graphs using the Cycling Weekly results, but I can only sort convince myself this isn't wishful thinking. However, if the Endura is really that much faster at the lower end of the graph, then I might have to get one. :-(

Would be useful to know what suit was tested from each brand. Eg Nopinz do a number of suits so may not be the quickest suit they tested.

The BP DOES have structure, in the material over he shoulders.
The suit that likely showed no change was an Assos I would have thought. As it essentially it just skin tight.

The question remains though. 1) what the hell does that graph mean 2) are any of these suits going to be worth trying to crow bar on in t1?

I wore the endura suit and it was the worst bit of kit I tried, it was horrible constrictive in all the wrong places.

I have a slimmed down cycling skin suit that apparently tests fast! Haha
