Needing aerobar extensions with a rise >110mm
Quote | Reply
Hi STers, am after some advice re aerobar extensions.
Currently running TriRig gamma's which have a rise of 102 mm, I also have some Zipp's here which have a rise of 110 mm.
I need to try and get my hands higher at the front end.
Unfortunately my bike base bar/stem (Scott Plasma 5) does not allow tilting of the aerobar set up easily.
What options are out there that are readily available and not horrendously expensive that have a rise of over 110 mm?
The Enve's look like they do but I cannot seem to find out what the actual rise is for them?
Any advice would be much appreciated.

Have you tried flipping them backwards? The USE Tula 50s are good for this too.

The Gamma's are flipped backwards to get the maximum rise out of them. Can't do it with the Zipp's, will look into your suggestion thanks!

The profile design 50a looks pretty tall. I couldn't find a dimension on the site... But, they clearly look very high.

I have a list, it may prove helpful
Normalised rise is centre to centre as a lot of brands have different measurements methods so I'm trying to make it easier to accurately compare

That list is phenomenal thank you.
Am googling options as we speak.

Really nice chart, thanks for sharing! Do you think you’ll get a chance to do 51 speed shop’s extensions at all?

You can get a lot of rise with a 30, 40, or 50 deg aluminum skin bend turned backwards.

Plus there are several people in the UK who make wedges to angle the armrests.

Emphasis added just to re-iterate the key point. You can't do this with carbon.

Or you can just get the USE 40 or 50 high rise carbon extensions for a proper job.

Another note regarding flat armrests is that if you have good ones and your bars have a lot of rise, resting your elbows on them feels pretty good... to me anyway. Even better if they are shaped to cup your elbow. If you've ever wanted to play with making some FG or carbon parts, this would be a good project...;

In there now. I'd last checked the site before all the details were released.

Coming from the SHIV development team and exposure to many aftermarket solutions, I would also caution this. The new SHIV Extensions have this capability but consult with the manufacturer before considering to run an extension in reverse.

Are you able to share the specs of Specialized extensions? Length, rise, angle.

Hey cyclenutnz

Sure, for the new SHIV, the extensions are 386mm (X) with 75mm rise (Y) at a 39degree angle.

Keep in mind that our extensions do have a jog in them (10mm) so when running them the short way your spacing changes at the beginning rather than the end

Thanks. Is the lateral shift 10mm per side or total?
You'll see in the list I posted above that I have the old Specialized extensions listed with a 10mm shift but have never been clear on whether that is total or not.
