My dream beam...
I've always been a beam fan.
Owned a Softride Qualifier, Power-V & a Zipp 3001 (all 650c).
Would want to own a beam bike again someday this time in 700c.
As I remember the 3001 was already very fast & was very happy with the ride.
Would change a few things which I put in 3D interpretation (I work in architecture)
- work on the front end, internal brakes/cables with a forward angled headtube merging with the stem.
- two piece stem with internal cable entry & exits behind stem to the frame top. long slot clamp to adjust hbar fore/aft.
unfortunately no basebasr up & down adjustment. only aerobars can be adjusted.
- 3001 down tube though very aero shaped far from front wheel. would rework a cut-out shape to compliment front.
- add bb fin below to handle rear brake.
- preferably Di2 for easy cable routing.
Hopefully new carbon technology will make this lighter than previous beams.

Still have to think how an efficient hydration system can be made.
In not an engineer & have no qualifications, just a dreamer.
Thanks for looking.

That's really cool. It would be interesting to get T.J. Tollakson's take on this concept.

Nice i like it definetly needs a trispoke up front though.
Maybe a bladder in the top tube for hydration.

One problem is that beam bikes r illegal in some races.
That is one of the reasons the Zipp 2001 and 3001 went by the way side in 1997/98.
edit: BTW, I own/race/train on a Zipp 2001 AND 3001 :-)

Just got an old Softride do to recent interest. Cycpro just came out with a production frame iA5 I think.

Most of the info is on facebook. They go for a lot of money however. I was looking for a fabricator to come up with some sort of modern/aero beam bike for the triathletes.

Guess the market will dictate. Seems like Titanflex has their fans, just wanted to see a more updated look. I really like the Softride PowerBeam frame, maybe with some updates to breaks and cable routing

Tends to be an issue in some European countries (or regions within them), where the multisport race sanctioning bodies have elected to simply adopt & enforce the ITU rulebook - which itself cites UCI bike design rules - rather than develop their own rule set like USAT has.

This is one that Graeme made for me in 2009. Still going very strong on it.

finally, someone that has incorporated current aero design with the venerable zipp 2001/3001 design.
DI2 - bayonet fork - integrated front and rear brakes - all internally routed cables - integrated aero stem / aerobar setup - front wheel cutout.......
Kudos dude.......
If only, the major manufacturers will jump on the bandwagon again!!

did you consider a fairing for the chainrings and front derailleur?
a fully enclosed fairing around the chainrings and front derailleur would be a significant aero improvement (would look better too).

also, how about asymetrical chainstays, with the drive side shaped to fair the cassette cluster?
this was done by mike burrows on the Giant MCR, might be some aero savings here too....

If it matters, I too have a soft spot for non-UCI legal designs.
Currently, I have a Giant MCR, Zipp 3001, Hooker Elite CAT 1

ANTLUE!!!!!!
your giving me more headaches with wilder concepts!
been a fan as well of all the wild, exotic aero bikes!
will need more time away from work for that.

worth the effort, I think.
I hope your efforts will be noted by some on the ST forum.
There are a lot of bicycle industry types trollling these forums.
What you might show here - hopefully will influence something on the drawing board.

Thanks

That might be the prettiest bike I have ever seen. Wow. I need a different job to make more money so I can have that.

I've been scheming on a non-uci design that at least logically should be an improvement over the design you show. If only I had the resources to prototype it, test it and produce it...

I remember it being mentioned that beam bikes might not be legal at ITU age group worlds.

And also various other countries might not allow them.
