Anyone have their bike elevation data from 2017 Muskoka? Trying to figure out what size cassette to use. Currently the website says 832 Elevation gain (you and I both know these are wrong most of the time). Tks

From 2017 my watch recorded 1,325m of elevation gain, over the 94km bike course.
I'm not sure if the link will work but this is the bike from last year (2017)

I have not raced for 3 years, but this might have been one of my best races that I did. I recorded 1300m+ of vertical and I raced it at an IF of 0.88

I raced with a 34x28 small gear (and used it often) and at the time my FTP was around 4.1-4.2W per kilo range, so that gives you an idea of the gearing you need depending on your FTP. I ran a really good run after that on the old hilly run course and squeeked in for 3rd in my age group (50-54), but I THINK if did not have a compact crank AND 28, I'd not have been able to execute a solid run. I was sub 5 on that course on that day

Don't have the garmin data but have done this race a few times and would highly recommend you have a rear 28, or possibly a 32.

Raced course last year. Two different elevation figures. 888m from my Forerunner 920xt and 552m from my garmin edge 510

I've ridden the course a couple of times, and quite a lot in the area. To put this delicately, I have more enthusiasm than ability when it comes to cycling, and had no issues with a 28 on the rear. The sharp stuff is pretty early on Britannia, and then climbing out of Dorset about halfway through. Most of the rest are longer grinds. From Dorset back, if the wind is friendly, you can probably leave it in the big ring if you run 50-34. You will be hard pressed to spin out the 50, either due to road conditions (cough - Dwight Beach) or just a general lack of pitch.
