Pretty quick... you're 17 or 18? You're swimming pretty decent times for someone dividing their training ... and yes they are looking for your feet. I lapped one of our continental cup guys in the 1500 with my time today. I'm looking to drop a minute or so when I with to scm and have a little more training in me.

Is anyone racing the Great Chesapeake Bay Swim this year? I am doing it again after missing it in 2011 due to US open water nats. I definitely recommend the event to any "fishies" out there

1.04, or 1.42 per 100m. Cramped in the calves from 25 minutes in.
It was a terrible result..! NZ was 5 minutes faster, and I was much better prepared this year.

I have been thinking back as to what went wrong. I only remembered last night that i had a big gulp of salt water. That is the only thing I can think of that might have caused the problems.

18:08, not super fast but good enough for top 10 in 35-39 (Fina rankings),

2:21 in 200 fly.

2 races 3 AG provincial records, I had the official split taken at the 800. I scratched my 400 due to a family event that I was running late to get to. My fitness was limiter in the 1500 today. Considering my month I'm not overly concerned. A week go my daughter was in the hospital...

Good meet. 18:08 for LCM is pretty solid. For me it was always difficult to go from short course training to long course racing.

Sweet! Way to push ahead with a crazy few weeks before the meet. Looking forward to watching your times drop with your next meet! Are you going to world's in Italy?

What website are you using to find the standings? I only really know about the USMS top ten listings.

I've been away in Phoenix, AZ and swam one day with the Phoenix Area Masters. Great fun swimming outdoors even though the kick sets killed me. Swam with some fun people and met another girl going to Y Nats, USMS Nats and Worlds. Needless to say she kicked some serious arse... even without fins when others were wearing them! Good to get an arse kickin' every now and then for sure.

That is a great swim, well run, well organized. I have done it twice, two years in a row many years ago when I was in the DC area. How many times have you done it? First year I wore a surfing wetsuit... then next year I had a sleeveless. I'd like to do it again someday and totally crush my previous times... wouldn't be too hard ;-)

I'm bummed for you... your previous swim posts looked rockin'. I'm not sure about anyone else, but I think it's really hard to compare open water swims. So many variables like the course, staying on course, current, etc. The cramping would piss me off though... did you have any of that previously? Did you wear different shoes the days before the race? I always blame weird feet & leg things on bad/different shoes or sitting or standing longer than I'm used to.

that smells a little like an excuse, i'm sure you didn't mean it that way. i'm also sure you weren't calling any of us old either, hehe. but who said anything about national age group records? we all gotta start somewhere, i'm cool with regional to start.

I believe it conflicts with Eagleman, so it seems to be the area fish who go, not the tri focused folks. Bunch of folks from my masters group will be doing it, but I'm not in this year. Hope it goes well for you. Are you doing the 4.4 or the mile?

Did you wear a wetsuit? Had you practiced in it leading up to the race? I don't know all the facts surrounding that swim, but here is a list of things that can cause cramps on the swim...

1.) Wetsuit tightness issues causing circulation problems.
2.) Not enough warmup
3.) Not used to swimming in wetsuit.
4.) You got excited about your faster swimming and went out too fast.
5.) Some kind of nutrition issue. (Usually lack of salt causes cramping. A gulp of salt water shouldn't be a problem.)
6.) And a new one from sweet_wtr: did you wear some funny shoes the day before?

Also, you gotta remember that you are out there pointing your toes for an hour -- sometimes in cold water -- with no walls and turns to break it up. Calf cramps can be pretty common.

Gotta be careful with that yard work. I often forget how being "in shape" is very specific to the
swimming and biking I do and anything else like light yard work leaves me sore for days. Hope
your back continues to feel better...
