Marathon - what a shame
That guy really showed no respect to his fellow competitors. Not at all!
He had his arms raised before even entering the Nest.
And he showed no respect for the fans. He kicked 200m from the finish for a 2h06.32 which is an olympic record, but had he kicked 1mi from the finish, even though the race was in the bag, he would have shattered the record, and probably gone under 2.06.
Such a lack of respect is sad for the Olympics. Really.

Nice try!
Trying to stir up some controversy... kinda like the discussion/argument about Wellington not going for the record?

Dude was flying and probably the only one who did not fade due to warmer than optimal conditions during a marathon.

I'm not sure I follow you. How did his actions disrespect anyone?

He raised his hands before getting on the track. I've seen WAY worse.

He broke the record, but didn't break it by enough for you????? Come on.

Funny.

But I keep wondering what he would have been capable of if he had been challenged. He was pushing the pace from the gun and still looked strong through the finish.

I was most impressed by the Morrocan. He looked to be done so many times, only to hang tough as all the other cracked.

i totally agree with you. you'd think the Japanese would have taught him better than that!

and what's with all that waving to the crowd BS. He should learn from Bekele and kick from 800m out.

Sammy DID fade by a fair bit during the marathon, 2nd half was 2 mins slower than the 1st half, even though the second half was on a slight downhill. Its just that everyone else faded worse.

I don't think he could of gone much harder, he had trouble walking after the finish. Then again he did get a victory lap in.

Post to be read in pink...it's a reference to the stupid thread about Bolt having no respect for his competitors and for the fans...
The marathon was awesome.

He showed no sportsmanship whatsoever! Absolutely offensive.

in all seriousness, i think his 2:06 in those conditions might actually be more impressive than Haile's 2:04 in Rome (?).

If he would have challenged he would competing in the Paraolympics in 2 weeks. Plus wheelchair athletes are much faster, aren't they?

Or for the commentators! They told him it was suicide to start at that pace, but he didn't listen! He should be banned from the Olympics and stripped of his medal.
