Shouldn't you be out training??????

I'm only targeting a 12 minute savings on the swim. The other 50 minutes will come from the bike and run...

Still sick. Forget being undertrained for IMFL. I'm going in UN trained.

Done.

You should come back out and ride with us again - still going every Sunday morning. Mostly recovery rides these days.

Livermore Valley Tennis Club, 8:30am. I think we are going about 40 miles through the foothills, a couple climbs and a lot of flats.

If you're looking for a total package, the new ClubSport in Walnut Creek has a guy on staff who's awesome. He coaches swimming, cycling and triathlon.

What's the reason for seemingly all club rides starting before 9am? Am I the only person who thinks that waking up at 6 or 7am on a weekend is tantamount to work? For me, the weekend ride is the highlight of that day, and thus should be done in the middle of the day so it can be relished, both before (as anticipation), and after.

Surely there is a reason that professional races start as late in the day as possible.

Well, when you have to ride 5, 6 or 7 hours, an early start is essential. Some people have families and don't want to waste the entire day on the bike. Others of us like to have a little time to actually other things besides be on the bike all day. Plus....summer time in the East Bay? 100F.

I will second Stu Smith at Livermore Tennis club. I couldn't swim 50 yards without stopping when he took pity on me. I can hold my own now and will find out for sure how fast I am at IM CDA in June. His Direct line is (925)292-1423.

I second that. I was out the door at 7:00am this morning, got in 5 hours on the bike and was home for lunch with my wife and daughter. BTW, it was hotter than s**t by the time I got home - glad I left early for this one.

There was a time when I would wake up at 5am and jump in the (outdoors) pool at 5:45am. Nowadays, I simply do not see the reason for doing this. I suppose one could say that I'm not that driven anymore.

I don't think an early start is essential; the only requirement is that you come in before the sun goes down -- and that seems to be the norm in professional races.

How often does it get that hot around here? I rarely find myself complaining about the heat; I am much more frequently bothered by the seemingly incessant wind (on the road) and the snakes (on the trails).

I suppose I'm resigned to be training and racing by myself.

Hey Cousin Elwood-

Are you talking about Dennis at CS Wal Creek? Have you specifically taken swim instruction from him? If so, please let me know how that went.

Thanks, Chris
