Yeah what a horrible swimmer, only 1 gold medal so far

8 golds.. 8 for 8... Lochte will never be anywhere near as good as Phelps..

And yes, the competition was tough 4 years ago.. phelps hit a few WRs and ORs.

+1....it would be better if he backed it up a little more, but I love the confidence as well

There are two ways to be "huge" in the US sports media.

1. Be the good ole American boy everyone wants to root for (Phelps)

2. Be the brash asshole who who talks shit about person #1 (Lochte).

Either way, you have to be successful to get the full payoff, but people are more forgiving when person #1 falls short of expectations, because he's not out there telling you how great he is.

Yep Lochte is total Deusche! If your gonna talk so much trash for the last year you better back it up in the pool. The competition is always tough, so that's not anything new. He totally blew it on the relay and you could see it in the faces of the rest of the team. They were like "REALLY LOCHTE". We give you a full body length lead going into the last 100 and you Freakin blow it? He'll never be able to live that down.

You gotta love his famous quote "Well I'm not much of a sprinter".

The "grill" thing irritates me on so many levels.....bragging about it, wearing it while in uniform with the gold medal....doesn't this guy have have a media handler from speedo/nike/whatever telling him to dial it back a notch ?

I may be getting to be an old man, but Phelps was always polite and considerate in Beijing and refused to brag before the games were over. without throwing out any spoilers, lets just say apart from the 400 IM win he has been very disappointing.

Perhaps less time and $$% spent obsessing about ghetto jewelry and more time in the pool would have helped....
