Lifespan of a powermeter/service for powertap p1s?
I have been using my powertap p1s for the past five years and haven't had any issues until this week- power meter readings are consistent, but consistently off by 20-30 watts from my wahoo kickr, when they have been in near perfect match for years. I've tried all types of calibration to no avail. What's the average lifespan of a power meter? And is there any hope for getting them serviced, or should I invest in a pair of faveros?

Out of interest why do you think it's not the wahoo in need of calibration/that has the issue?

Or even your BB in need of a service if the Powertaps are reading higher.

Because the power on the wahoo matches my expected heart rate and effort almost exactly, and the pedals go from being 30w too high to 20w too low. Example- kickr is saying 185, pedals read ~220. Kickr reads 290w, pedals read 270w.

I wore out two sets of P1 bearings at around 5,000 miles. That is in the ballpark of their expected life - maybe a little longer for some.

Yes, SRAM is still servicing the PowerTap P1 pedals.

My P1's were that way their entire life. I never could get them to be consistent or to not have contant pairing issues with my Garmin devices. I switched to Favero's and have had zero issues. Wish I would have done it sooner but I simply hated the look of the Favero's and let my vanity cause a few seasons of constant frustration.

That's rough. Sorry to hear it. I love my p1s- they have been rock solid for the past 5 years. I would definitely buy another set if they were still around. Looks like I am going to be ordering some faveros- those seem to be the best reviewed ones and that matches your experience.

I messaged sram to see what my options were- I also found a company in Europe that services them. May go that route if sram doesn't do the work anymore.

Fingers crossed but I'm still on my first gen Vectors from 2014 with no issues.

What did you find out from SRAM? My pedals are doing well RE accuracy, though they have what I would consider to be excess play in the spindle, I suspect from worn out bearings.
Hadn’t used them for a month and one of the batteries leaked inside. Just read you’re supposed to take batteries out if you don’t use them for a while. Fingers crossed the left pedal isn’t toast from the battery leak!

That's one of the reasons to use lithium batteries. They don’t leak.
