girlfriends new bike

BRAND NEW 650 P3

yes its a wonky stem, but I assure you her position is Torbjorn and Slowman approved. Shes just got LEGS.

A lot of the bikes in this thread are obviously too small for the people who ride them.

I often see children riding bikes which may have fit years ago but are now much to small. Is it common in the US to ride those tiny bikes? Why not buy a bike in the right frame size? Then you don't need millions of spacers and those ultra long seat posts.

I've seen things you people wouldn't believe. Attack ships on fire off the shoulder of Orion. I watched C-beams glitter in the dark near the Tannhauser Gate. All those moments will be lost in time like tears in rain.

it isn't to 'small'

its too 650C

but we already have a nice set of 650C wheels and the frame was super cheap.

it was a budgetary consideration. For $400 of brand new frame what would have been faster?

it may help you feel smug to have no spacers on your bike, and sure it looks better, but from a pragmatic perspective the only thing we are giving up is, well nothing really. Its not a carbon fork or anything in danger of snapping.

a short/tall bike like a cannondale might fit better but they don't sell anything fast for $400

a bigger cervelo would have been too long

Great looking bike. I love how the grays in the wheel and paint complement.

The rear wheel is a homemade disc converted from a Mavic Aksium training wheel. I cut the discs from flat ABS plastic sheets and bonded them to the wheel with Spray foam insulation. And yes it does make the ominous rumbling sound just like a "real" disc.

Paul, I'm wondering if you can provide us with some more details about the construction of your homemade disc. I've always been interested in trying this out.

Mine from this morning's ride. The photo is a little blurry...

It's 3 years old, needs a little cleaning, but I still love it.

Man, I HEART those bikes, although the Madone with the wheel cover looks a little weird :)

PS- A group of us are riding from Farm and Fleet in Watertown tomorrow am at 8am, if you are interested

"Hard to believe its been 3 years..."

I was thinking the same thing. I still think of it as my new bike. (I actually have a Litespeed that's a little newer) I'm amazed by the seeming endless number of folks who seem to get a new top end bike (at least) each season around here.

My ride is almost vintage; one of the last years that Tequilo frames were made in the USA. I just pulled it out of storage.
