So, I guess this is about ten years old, but I have never heard of it before... (http://www.usalaserrun.com/multimedia) Why isn't this bigger?? Why is there only one race in the US?? It combines two of my all time favorite things from my childhood:

Its really only become a thing since the change in format to the modern pentathlon. Since about 2010, the modern pentathlon is really only 4 events since they've combined pistol shooting with running. The gun is now a laser pistol and the format is 4x800m with a pit stop to hit 5 targets as fast as possible. You can reload as much as needed and you do not run with the pistol (unlike the biathlon events).

Think of it like this; laser run is to the modern pentathlon what duathlon or aquathlon is to triathlon.

I'm going to try to make it happen in the S.F. Bay Area on 11/24/2019!

Check out the event web page for my 2019 Wolfpack All-Comer Track Meet and Laser Run.

I’ve seen this combined with open water swimming.

Yep, that's the Triathle (or "Modern Triathlon") event, which is one of the three sub-sports of Modern Pentathlon being promoted by UIPM.

I put on a successful Laser-Run event last Sunday, 11/24, in Campbell, CA.

Check out the highlights page on my event web site!

I'm hoping to build on this success and at least double the participation for next year.

If I can do this, the event should be sustainable going forward.
