Keeping your stationary cycling trainer..... stationary
Quote | Reply
My trainer is on a hardwood floor and I'm having trouble with it walking forward as I ride. Short of permanently securing it to the floor, anyone have any solutions?

Needs to be on a rubber mat. Everyone else in the house will thank you.

I'm closer to the feathered end of the spear than the point.

I use a cheap but thick yoga mat and it works well.

I use an old bathroom carpet thingy. Rubber-backed, just big enough for the trainer (does not extend to the front wheel). We were changing the bathroom colors anyway, so the carpet thingy was almost in the trash can. Free! Works great for the 'walking' problem but (probably) much less so for the sound deadening of other solutions.

This (or something similar) is what you need.

I'm using a big foam rubber mat. It stays put.

You think that's rigid enough? I'm using a flimsy yoga mat at the moment and I've crawled half way under the TV by the time my intervals are over.

It was stupidly overpriced, but I bought the Wahoo pad along with my trainer. I also have hardwood floors (pre-war NYC apartment) and the bike/trainer never move an inch.

I have those rubber/foam mats that are like puzzle pieces. When I bought them, they came as sets of 4 pieces, and 3 of them joined are the perfect length for my Direct drive trainer, and the length of my bike with enough room to spare for sweat catching. I have used this set-up on hardwood and on laminate, and have had no migration issues (also had no issues with my old wheel on mag trainer, circa 1997, using the same matting on both hardwood and laminate)...

It stays put whether I'm easy spinning, or throwing down 1100 watt sprints...

I do think so.
I dont have that exact one, but I recently bought a Performance branded one (which I no longer see on their website) and it works great.
My trainer is also on a wood floor under the mat and it never moves an inch, you can buy a Cycleops or Wahoo branded one for more then double the price but I am pretty sure that they don't work any better.

I've found the best is to go to a place that sells rubber mats in rolls and buy a section of 1/2" they cut that about 2- 3 ft wide (ie the width of the roll) 4-6 ' long. We got ours at place that sells rubber mats for indoor weights rooms etc. SO much better than any of that flemsy foam mats. Quiet too.
Others have gotten at farm/animal stall mat places.

Old plywood on top of carpet then a thick rubber mat from Amazon on top. Gives a solid platform to sprint on and a layer to prevent sweat from getting into the carpet.
