Man, couldn't we have done this last month? I was only 2k shy ;)

Today it was "no-bullshit" day at the pool, according to my coach.

10x500 on 7:30, desc 1-3, 4-6, 7-9, and 10 was with paddles/fins and was done as (continuous) 5x75 all out, 25 ez.
100cd

total of 5100scy. Going to lift weights tonight.

I dunno if 100k will happen for me or not, but I'll definitely try! Summer break is here, my last bit of calm before I head to college, and I'm going to make it count training wise!

"Don't you have to go be stupid somewhere else?"..."Not until 4!"

I had a flourish, putting in a grand 5900 yds over the weekend to only come up 45k short in May. Even with my planned 5 swims/wk, this one is going to be harsh...

Hah! Well, if it's any consolation, I doubt I'll make it, either. You and Scot came so close. If you can pull it off, you'll be in a pretty elite group of ST Fish. Our yardage king, ericmulk, hasn't joined the challenge in months, but 150k or more was his monthly norm. I think he came out of the water only to eat and... well, certain other things you don't want to do in a pool.
My friend, Tanya, ocean swam with me Saturday for 3.5 miles, and then Sunday, she was back in it for 8 miles. She was partnering with another guy who's summer swim challenge is to circumnavigate Santa Barbara Island then continue on to Catalina Island. I think I heard that it's some 30-35 miles.

I pulled of my usual 45 min AM swim:
1000s 12:40
5x100 various kicks
5x100@1:30 1:10/:09/:09/:08/:06
100k/100IM/100k/100fr

2400 sc yardages

You realize June has only 30 days, not 100. :p

4500m today, pretty easy / moderate.

Main set this evening, 4x400 (1st easy, 2nd neg split, 3rd every 4th length fast, 4th "fast") on 6:15. 5:12, 5:13, 5:12. 5:01

Fast in air quotes, because I'm not going hard this week, but I did pick it up a bit.

The challenge page does the math for you. It's something like 91,400m.

I was looking for something fun to do so I did a 1650 time trial. I ran 7 miles in the AM so I wasn't exactly expecting a PR.

I went 18:37.6

By 200 my splits were
2:07.4 / 2:15.9 / 2:17.5 / 2:17.3 / 2:16.7 / 2:16.6 / 2:16.0 / 2:17.0 / 33.5

I wanted to go under 18:30 so I tried to pick it up with 300 to go. But the extra gear only last for about a 75. My sister did a 1000 after me ( we timed each other) it was a great family experience.

Fast time!!!!!! I'm hoping to crack 20:00 by the end of the summer, or the end of the year..we'll see how the training goes!

Funny story about yesterday - for maybe the first time ever, I went back to the pool to swim a double, despite what was a bigger morning for me at 5100. Got changed, thunder and lightning, and they closed the pool. That's what I get for being dedicated, I guess ;) I'll definitely try to double some in the near future though, I'm curious what it'll do for me.

Coach was feeling evil today and followed up the 10x500 from yesterday with a power workout today:

1000wu various
fins on 8x75 kds on 1:15 fins off
Main Set:
10x50 on :50 hold :35
20x25 on :30 band/buoy/paddles, hold :20 or better
10x50 fins/paddles on :45 hold :30
20x25 on :30 band/buoy/paddles hold :18ish
10x50 paddles with a descending pyramid of pushups before each, so 10 before first 50, 9 before the second, and so on (did 11 before the last one to make 55 total). Held :33-:35 for the 50s. Minimal rest, it was pushups, into the pool, 10sec to get set (goggles adjusted/pads on), and go
200ez cd for 4300scy

I felt awful until the final set of 50s, when things finally started to click. Contemplated bailing multiple times, glad I stuck it out as I felt pretty good on the final 50s!! Swimmers always have said that some of the best sets happen at the end of workouts where you feel awful, but I'd never experienced it until today! Also have a bike/run to do later.

"Don't you have to go be stupid somewhere else?"..."Not until 4!"

Wow! That's where I'd like to be, but it'd be more work than I want to do! LOL (and less of other things I like to do.)

This AM:
500s 6:12
5x100 various kicks
5x200@3:00 2:27/:24/:21/:18/:24
2x[50k/100IM] 1:21/:18
100 cool

2400 sc yardages

I need more front end speed, so to that end I bought a chin-up bar today, my first purchase to set up my home gym / weights area in the garage. This weekend I'll make a padded bench and pick up a few free weights.

Doing this will also force me to finally refinish the secondhand dining room hutch that is sitting in the garage, exactly where the gym needs to go.

8/100 done. (Sorry... for the math police (TC), i guess that is 2/25)

Two races this month... 70.3IM in 1.5 weeks, and 2 mile national championships OWS on June 27....

How am I going to get to 100k with two tapers? Hmm... How long to taper? 2 days? :-)

nice, though I gotta call you out on the triathlete-ism... Real swimmers are not allowed to invoke "other workouts" as an excuse for not PR'ing on a swim, and you my friend are definitely a real swimmer. Me on the other hand, just a used-to-be-swimmer...

500 wu
100/200/300/400/400/300/200/100 ladder @ 1:30 base (last 200/100, 2:34/1:14)
100k @ 2:00
200IM cd

2800scy, ~45 min

Despite what your HS teacher told you about always reducing fractions, I can think of a couple examples in maths where we DON'T and there is a good reason for it. I consider this one of them: the goal is 100k, so I'm cool with 100 as a denominator :-)

100k? Maybe by the end of September. Dang.

Until 10 minutes ago I was looking forward to my 3900 yd swim after work. Now I feel weak and pathetic.

I consider myself a triathlete not a swimmer. But I agree the 7 miler excuse was pretty lame. My apologies (really).
