Well, I guess I'm both a fishie and a guppie, because I'm slow and I swim a lot. My yards in each challenge will cancel out.

As the cat wrangler for a bunch of stats to be used to roughly compare these challenges & compare against the fish, I may ask a few of you/us gilled folks for some info. Stay tuned. HS - you're definitely one of the ones I'm asking. I'm considering us the "control" since most of us probably won't be changing anything we do & therefore can really expect only moderate gains to already reasonable/fast times.

I suffered through a worthless workout this morning.

300wu
8x100 D/S 1:50
6x200 Pull 3:10 (Desc 1-3/4-6, 3:00, 2:50, 2:40)

2x:
2x100 Build 1:45
8x50 1:00 (Odd - Ez/Fast, Even - Fast/Ez)

200 K Build
4x50 K Fast 1:00
200 cd

TOTAL: 4100 LCM

Thanks and welcome govols. It'd make it a lot easier to add up yardages if you (all of you posting only here) posted w/o's and joined the challenge in the ST Training Log. We can't let a bunch of guppies out swim us!!

Done, at least I think I've done it correctly. Hard to believe I've been on ST for years and this is the first challenge I've participated in.

I'm doing a month long OW swim series (2mi race/each Tuesday) so I'm hoping to keep my weekly yardage at around 12k not including the races. Should help our monthly total.

Got 3/4 way through the workout this morning, and thunder was heard... we were told to evacuate the pool. Rats - i wanted to go long. We didn't see any lighting. Only got in 3,550m today. It was a simple aerobic freestyle set (with waaay too much kicking). Sorry to newbee this, but where is the ST log? I'll be swimming like a fish in July. And see if I can beat the 55 miles I did in June.

warm up. (200 swim, 200m kick, 200m pull)... and then some for me...
4 x 150m (50 drill, 50 kick, 50 swim) on 20s rest
--then 8x200 on 5-10 sec intervals, like this--
1 x 200m (50 kick, 50 swim, 50 kick, 50 swim)
1 x 200m (100 moderate, 100 fast)
1 x 200m (50 pull, 50 swim, 50 pull, 50 swim)
1 x 200m (100 fast, 100 easy)
--then repeat--
1 x 200m (50 kick, 50 swim, 50 kick, 50 swim)
1 x 200m (100 moderate, 100 fast)
1 x 200m (50 pull, 50 swim, 50 pull, 50 swim)
1 x 200m (100 fast, 100 easy)
--
Hear thunder... get out...

RACE REPORT: Pacific Crest Long Course Triathlon went great! Won the old/heavy (Clydes) division, 5th fastest of all 372 racers in the swim... That was fun.

Look at the blue line at the top of the page. The 8th link over is Training Log. Once in the training log and you start logging your w/o's. Click the Challenges and you'll see all the various challenges. Our Fish vs Guppies is titled: Challenge the Guppies Revenge Swim Challenge.

I won't be swimming nearly as much as the past two months, I fear. So, good to have some new fishies join up!

Is there a quick way to get the total pts for the people entered?

run: 9 mi w/ 24 min. going from 7.5 mph to 9.8 mph (increase speed 0.1 mph per min)
yoga: 1 hr
swim: 3000 yds

I was in a 20 yrd pool. Did
600, 400, 200, 200, 400, 600 w/ 100 kick after each
4 x 50 pull the evens
4 x 100 kick the evens

30 points is equal to like six guppy workouts, right?

maybe she's born with it, maybe it's chlorine
If you're injured and need some sympathy, PM me and I'm very happy to write back.

I don't usually throw in on the monthly challenges, just occasionally post workouts that I think are interesting or particularly gruesome. I'll enter this one & try to remember to log my workouts on here too. Since I fairly religiously track them on usms & in my own log, anyone is welcome to remind me if I start slacking on here.

Today was just gnarly. I swear this stupid LCM outdoor pool at the Y that our tri group swims at on T mornings is uphill. I swear that it's uphill. Everyone swims slower, the water flow is weird...it's just not my favorite. Throw in a broken clock & we're training Pavlov-style using a tempo trainer for our interval, unable to track anything. BEEPBEEPBEEP - GO!

But it's outside...so I'll shut up now.

300 warmup

800 swim 12:00 (all on 1:30 base)
200ez pull
2x400 6:00
200ez pull
4x200 3:00
200ez pull
8x100 1:30
200 ez pull

200 cooldown
TOTAL: 4500 LCM

I copy/paste the two challenges into a spreadsheet and summarize the distance columns - =SUM(E1:E13), for example. It takes all of 30 seconds to do.

Now that I literally live above a 25yd pool - I may actually develop a swim program with some consistency. Here's my 1st workout after 3 weeks on land - and my times reflect it.

warm up

200 kick
200 drill
Main set
4x
200 @2:40 medium (2:33, 2:34, 2:35, 2:35)
150 @2min build (1:52, 1:52, 1:54, 1:55)
100 @1:20 hard (1:11, 1:11, 1:12, 1:10)

200 IM warm down

Hey! I resemble that remark! As soon as I'm able to get vertical I'm going to make it my mission to pad the guppies' total.

These guppies are going down. Let's see how they swim with a loaded mesh swim-bag wrapped around their toes...

Maybe I'll start doing some of my 5 mile open water swims in the river early this year... (I usually wait until August)

Fantastic! Please add yourself to the challenge in the Training Log so your yardages will be added into the collective (yes, I've been watching Voyager reruns on Netflix lately - a few episodes past the inclusion of 7 of 9 (woohoo!))

Hurt back during yoga and flip turns are a no-go. 9 mi easy run (fine) then 1200 yds with open turns.
