Can't remember which company, might have been Klein, but I remember one of the companies experimenting with bamboo as a frame material.

You may be thinking of Calfee. He built a Bamboo frame that was supposed to be ridden in Kona but wasn't due to mechanical issues (not related to the frame)

Yup. You're right. Apparently bamboo is a near perfect frame material. To my understanding, the main reason this never went into production was because of possible quality control issues for the supplier.

Yes, it is very difficult to get the right bamboo.
