Jog bras

Hello all

I'm a 34D and am having a hard time finding a comfortable jogbra for my first IM. I do my training runs in the Champion bras for busty ladies (I can't remember the name - actionsport or something like that). They're good - the fabric doesn't really have any stretch, so there is very little bounce. I find that they chafe unless I'm careful with bodyglide before I head out. Also, they're made of cotton, and so turn into a very heavy parachute on the swim.

I need to wear two 'regular' (lycra/spandex) jogbras, which gets kind of uncomfortable and sweaty. Chafing where the bands meet my chest is even more of a problem with this type (more bounce). I put hockey tape along where the band hits my chest, and that stops most of the chafing, but it's not really a swim-friendly solution. If I don't come up with anything else, I guess that's what I'll wear on race day. It looks kind of dippy, though.

Anyone have any good ideas?

Hi there,

http://www.title9sports.com/

is pretty famous for sports bras in a range of sizes. They have several bras they recommend for D cups.

The "Full-Support Double Dry Sports Top" is supposed to be wicking, non-chaffing, and supportive . It looks like the most comfortable to swim in. There's also the "Frog Bra" and the "Last Resort" which are a bit more compressive (and a little weird)

http://www.teamestrogen.com/

has the "E-nell" which may be the same as the "Last Resort."

Both companies are nice to deal with, but I have no first-hand knowledge of the bras...

Meg.

I hate cotton bras. I hate the wetness, I hate the way they stretch when wet, and lose any semblance of previous support, I hate trying to pull them off...yuck.

Title9 does have a great selection, and supposedly, if the bra doesnt fit perfectly, you can send it back for an exchange/refund. However, they are mostly cotton bras which i dislike.

I really like the Zoot 'long sport top'-- its got a very nice built-in bra made out of mesh, which doesnt stretch and offers suprisingly excellent bounce control! PLus, the mesh doesnt stretch at all when wet, and the rest of the fabric is wonderful, as a single layer for summer/racing, or as base layer. A similar idea by Nike (mesh bra under fitted tank) is worse than worthless in comparing bounce. But this Zoot thing is wonderful. I sometimes wear another Zoot bra underneath, or over, if I feel like I need it, and have never had chafing problems...anyway, its worth a try!

RoadRunnerSports.com sells a cotton-free pullover bra called the Sportek. It comes in an A-B version and a C-D version. I tried the C-D and it was too tight around the armholes for me, but it might work for you. This bra totally eliminated the bounce -- amazing for a pullover bra. I found out about it on an ultrarunning site.

Nike makes (or used to make) an awesome bra for C and D cups only. It's called the crossback bra. It is adjustable, doesn't chafe, contains no cotton, and has no hardware to dig into your skin. I have six of them! I have swum in them and done triathlons and marathons in them. It dries very quickly. I love this bra. If you live near a big city with a Nike store, try on their bras. Some department stores carry them, too.

I recently tried the Zoot long top Ziva mentioned, but it didn't have enough control for me. It looks fabulous, though. :)

You shouldn't have to double up -- there are lots of bras out there.

I have the opposite problem (still looking for the padded sports bras!) but I'll second the store recommendations-Title 9 has a good selection, and their reps really know alot about their products. Road runner sports has a whole separate online store "mysportsbra.com" or something like that. Athleta also sells some sports bras, and have a rating system as well.

I've had really good luck with sports bras from a company called Best of Times. I always pick up a couple at running expos. As a 40C (and Clydesdale gal), I doubt one boob would fit into anything from Zoot or DeSoto. Moving Comfort also makes decent stuff, but I think they are all cotton.

Cathy,

Did you see that DeSoto has a size "Athena" in all of their women's tri clothes this year? I think that's some progress.

Although I do find it ironic that I had to lose enough weight to no longer qualify as an Athena to fit into the Athena size.

And Zoot sizing, well, they're even more ridiculous!

I like www.x-chrom.com ; they have a wide variety & an online utility to help you pick the one that's right for you. I like the Shock Asorbers myself (http://www.x-chrom.com/...4?product_id=V862152) but they have lots of other choices too.

Hi. Right. I'm always very jealous of the lucky small chested runners. I've had good luck with mysportsbra.com. Tons of choices and good help also. Have you tried using ace wrap as a base? I'm not sure how it would hold up in the water, but it may be better than 2 layers of chaffing cotton! And, believe it or not, I've heard of duct tape it protect against the band. Maybe man did invent something good?
