HEADLINE: Javelin Cycles Announces New Ownership and Investment

SPORTS AND BUSINESS EDITORS

Chicago, Illinois -- Javelin cycles has announced a change in ownership including significant new investment. Citadel Group has invested substantial new capital in Javelin, LLC and committed to additional capital infusions during 2004. This increase in financial resources allows Javelin to both increase its production capacity and expand its recently launched line of bicycles.

An affiliate of Citadel Group, a Chicago based institutional investor, has acquired the Javelin brand and select assets of Javelin Cycles. Furthermore, Citadel Group has invested in additional manufacturing and marketing capacity for the Javelin brand.

"I am excited about the prospects of our new bike designs" said Scott Warren, Javelin's chief operating officer.

Javelin's expanded bike line utilizes titanium, aluminum and carbon fiber materials in optimum combination to increase performance.

Javelin's product line includes a full range of high performance frames and complete bikes. The pinnacle of Javelin's design achievement is represented in the Brunello and Arcole models.

The Brunello is a high end road bike utilizing advanced composite and aluminum technology. "The Brunello is aimed specifically at the customer seeking a quality road frame to match with sophisticated componentry," said Warren.

The Arcole is a wind tunnel developed aero frameset created specifically with triathletes and time trialists in mind.

Javelin also offers a bicycle specifically designed for children ages ten to fifteen who participate in competitive cycling and triathlon. This bike, named the Dolce, will utilize standard 650 c wheelsets and other components, allowing competitive teens to access bicycle technology at an attractive price point previously only available to adults.

The complete Javelin line is offered through select, high quality bicycle retailers.

Javelin anticipates building on its winning tradition, with professional athletes including Tim Deboom, Chann McRae, Mari Holden, Alison Dunlap, Carol Montgomery, Andrea Ratkovic and Joanna Zieger having registered victories on Javelin cycles in the past years.

Earlier this month, Javelin signed a sponsorship agreement with Team Basis for the 2004 cycling season. Sponsorship negotiations are currently underway with additional professional cycling teams.

Javelin will remain located in Little Rock, Arkansas, its home of nine years.

Citadel Group is a Chicago based institutional investor with assets under management of over
$1 billion. Investment areas of concentration include real estate, health care, publishing/media, manufacturing, distribution, and retail.

I wonder if Javelin will now sport 20 different road bike models, all of which will only be sold as complete bikes. Oh, and they'll also have to fire their good sales reps, especially if they have kids.

Isn't this the same investment firm that is funding the recent John Cobb retail/product expansion?

Is this the same JJ flame bait specialist from R.S.T. years ago?

If it's you, great to have you around. Hopefully you'll stir things up a bit, just like the old days.

Next thing we know, Katie (I mean Catherine) Williams? aka baringo? will rear her head again as well.
