Is Lanzarote usually wetsuit legal?
I have a friend that wants to do it, but is a little freaked out by the mass starts. Is it wetsuit legal every year? That might help him get over the hump.

The Atlantic is not very warm and wetsuits are always allowed.
The start is always a bit crazy. The first buoy is <200m from the beach. I don't understand why they are not trying to put a buoy a lot further away. I understand it's convenient as there are lines of small buoys permanently in this bay, but that's one thing I don't like about this course. However, one can always start a bit further back. Few minutes lost in the swim can easily be recovered on the long bike section. It's a great race, can't wait for Saturday ;)
