Ironman Florida 2019

Who's in?

I did this in 2016 and 2017. Crashed in 2016 and broke my right wrist. Painful but finished. 2017 I got upper respiratory infection/poor nutrition that lead to breathing through nose on bike since throat was on fire and a +7 hour Marathon. I have the same infection now so I guess it's good the kids have it to me early this year. I am just wanting a smooth 140.6 race to build off. I have missed the last couple of workouts feeling like shit. Anybody else going through a similar situation?

Did IMFL in 2012. My training has been going well the last 8 weeks, but woke up with my right ankle swollen on Wednesday. I don’t remember twisting it or whatnot, but I so have lots of scar tissue and arthritis on that ankle. Laying off the running for a few days.

Hope you recover quickly. We still have 2 weeks so fingers crossed for both of us.

I’m in, coming from Dallas. I did it in 2017 with a stress fracture, but I’m healthy now, so looking forward to a fun day. I’m also tired and ready to get it done!

Who else is in??

first Ironman was Louisville this year. When I found out the swim was cancelled, I was super pissed and registered for Florida.

Had a 'much' better run than I thought I could do in Louisville with a 3:15 off the bike. I'm really hoping with a smart few weeks I can rest up and do it again.

Should be fun!

It's a great first. The ocean is the wild card. There is always some wind on the bike so that's expected and the run is flat with great support. If the ocean is calm you will think you are in the Caribbean as it can be very beautiful.

This will be IMFL #6 for me. Last did PCB in 2014, swim was cxl. Bummer, rough water swimming is my strong suit, but it was likely a good decision seeing as how so many show up thinking "oh I'll just get through the swim..." such a bad idea...

Anyhow, signed up for last year just to take another step towards legacy, and then bam! we're in Haines City! Amazing logistical feat pulled off by Ben Rausa and his crew. I wasn't really prepared for that course, but finished, and got a good old fashioned ass-kicking. Still, kinda cool to be running in the rain and lightning...

Hoping to rock it this year, and feeling ready to go. Best of luck to the rest of Y'all!

I really like Haines City 70.3. Would have loved to race the full there. A couple friends enjoyed it and I hung out until the rain started. It turned bad very quickly.

My wife and I will be racing it again. We both raced it in 2016, and I raced it in 2014 when the swim was cancelled. I am packing for all weather scenarios, but hopefully it will be a sunny day with light winds.

Here's hoping everyone gets 2013 conditions! Starky was the first US male sub 8 & didn't win!

Pink? Maybe. Maybe not. You decide.

Everybody cried about the swim in 2013 though haha. I'm in this year for IMFL x3 having done 2013 and 2017. Fingers crossed for light winds and a cool overcast day

There was nothing to cry about on that day. Once you got through the first breakers, it was smooth sailing. That day is still my 2.4 PR swim & ive done B2B full!

I agree. It was my first but still exceeded expectations on the swim and was my PR until I raced it again in 2017. I’ll take 2013 or 2017 weather all day

I don’t know if it will hold out, but the current forecast is 55 at start and high of 70.

Does anyone know when the swim course will be set up?

I’m hoping to swim the course at least once before the event. Ideally, I’d swim Thursday and Friday.

They put the race buoys out race morning. I think I remember little white balls marking the course a couple days before?

Weather is looking great. A couple of days it was projecting 16 mph sustained winds with 30 mph gusts, but that has dropped to 7 mph/10 mph. Water temp this morning was mid 76.

Where is the forecasted wind speed/direction on noaa? Being a Floridian the start of the bike could be cold but will be worth it to have the run temps in the 60s. Surf reports are showing 10mph-ish winds with gusts to 15 out of the N, so should be flat surf conditions for the swim

For those currently with boots on the ground in PCB...

Is the 2020 date November 7th?

I need to transfer my IMTX race to a later race but I'm also doing IM Louisville and want at least a four week buffer. IMAZ works better in that regard but that will be harder to transfer into than IMFL. Plus I live in FL now so it's an easy drive to PCB.
