I believe I have intermittent claudication. I'm an age group triathlete, able to swim and bike just fine. However, after running just a short distance (mile) I experience a painful tightness in both lower legs, below the calf, more towards the Achilles area. Although I have been diagnosed with PAD, and have had both femoral arteries reamed out, my vascular doctor thinks I have an orthopaedic issue, not a vascular one. If I stop and massage the areas, eventually I am able to run with little or no pain. This is why the doc believes the problem is orthopaedic. I do a lot of stretching of the area, and also use a hard (Piece of PVC pipe) as a foam roller. I still am able to do Escape From Alcatraz, being a longer effort. Right now sprints and Olympic distance races are out, as I can't go hard from beginning to end.
Any thoughts? I'm stuck on 257 triathlons, dating back to 1984, and would like to reach 300.
