Does anyone out there know anything about the Zipp 3000? When it debuted, what reviews it got, when Zipp stopped making it, if it's a good wheel/bad wheel and why?

I know that it is pretty old. I think that Mark Allen rode them back around 1989 and thereafter for an Ironman win or two. My memory says that they were very stiff laterally, but not very aero. Supposedly--no proof here--they were as aero spinning forward as they were spinning backwards. If you look at the blades, they certainly didn't look aero--but neither do Nimbles and supposedly they are good.
I haven't seen any in a long while. A buddy here in Austin had a white 3000, but it was a freewheel design, so unless you were running 6 or 7 speed and a 126mm rear axle, it wasn't any good.
