I’m from Canada..... what’s the hurricane Florence situation like and will it affect the race?

In, 2 IM’s/year is much harder than I remember. Maybe I am just getting old!

Cambridge got some flooding prior to Florence. Now that Florence has changed course and is hitting south, I don't think it will have any impact on the race. There should be enough time for levels to get back to normal before the end of September.

The good news is that there are three other hurricanes in the atlantic ocean and none are projected to hit the states. I am no expert but I think the three hurricanes are preventing more from forming. It looks like we will be safe for the next few weeks.

Good luck to the North and South Carolina who are about to get hit hard by Florence though :(

I'm in! Coming from Ontario. Do we have any veterans of this race that want to share any tips/feedback on the in's and out's of race wee, venue, the race itself? Does the shuttle system work well? I'm staying about 15' outside of town in East New Market at an AirBnB.

Some comments about the race....

You can drive to T1 in the morning, plenty of parking.
Parking around the expo during the week is rough.
Not much going on or to do in Cambridge; a few decent restaurants but that is about it. The town is actually very run-downed outside the water front area.

Regarding the course...If it is windy, your bike will go to hell. Last years the winds picked up the 2nd loop and ruined alot of peoples race. It may be a flat course but the winds don't care.

The marathon is horrible. I have run probably over 40 marathons, and this by far is the worse.
Reasoning:
2.5 Loops
Cobblestones, who the hell can raise their feet high enough during a marathon to not fall on their face and to do it twice?
No lighting...When the day starts to fade and the night comes in, there is very little lighting on the marathon course and you will be running in COMPLETE darkness at times.

Pretty sad finish line experience.
And its a shame their is only 1 decent hotel in the area and they price gauge the crap out of athletes; though they have a bada$$ pool.

I think I’m going to pretend I didn’t read this!!

I'm probably out for a meetup, plan to just lay low with family before the race.

So are we going to have a wetsuit swim? I always assumed it would be but it's still hot AF where I live so kinda hard to imagine swimming in a wetsuit in a couple weeks.

As of today water temp was 76.5 and with a massive cold spill coming I am after the weekend it should go down 2 to 4, also race day could be the coldest day in the area in 3 or 4 month a High of 65 sounds good to me
