IM FL 2020 Prediction & Race Day Thread

Who do you predict will win IM FL tomorrow?

- Sam Long goes sub 7:46

Doesn't look like IM will be posting video, and they won't grant media passes to film from motos, so it'll be random Instagram Live video coming from Kenny Withrow, it appears.

Looks like it will be a chilly non-wetsuit swim and kicking winds on the bike and run.

The professional race is truly irrelevant. This is all about Chris Nikic finishing. I want cameras on that kid the whole time.

Washed up footy player turned Triathlete.

Good luck to all participants. There are really only two types of people. Those who say I can’t, and those who say I can.

Enjoy the experience. You never know when it will be your last.

I just looked at the wetsuit rules for pro’s as I couldn’t remember. 71.5!! 5 degrees less than the AG cutoff. Unless the water temp drops a half degree tonight, it will be no wetsuit for the pros.

I’ll take Sam Long for the win (merica). It’ll be interesting to see how the front pack responds when Sam gets to the front. I expect Cody to go with him and not let him go. We could be in for a great battle on the run. Look out for Matt Hanson to run a 2:39 or low 2:40s. Weather is setting up for a fast run (cool and overcast).

I did not even realize there is a pro race there. Bad marketing by ironman if a fairly hard core triathlete is unaware

Start list for those curious

I'd love to see Cody win but it's hard to bet against Sam Long in his current form.

Skye and Heather should be interesting. Both pretty even across the board so might actually get something of a foot race going. I think Heather will take it with more 140.6 experience.

I believe they moved the pro race to Fl when Arizona was shortened.

Not sure about amateurs racing, but my bud Colin Cook should be up there - he hasn't cracked 9 hours in an IM, but could certainly do it on a good day.

Don’t believe Heather is racing this one, so not sure how accurate the start list is.

For the men, Sam is focused and hungry and will be tough to beat. Hope to see a good race.

mile 20 on the mens pro side, 1st thru 11th place is a train, only 20 seconds separate the front from the back.

What a full on train in 2020 and no Lange sitting in the back. Must be a Covid19 year!

90k in and it looks like there's a big pack at the front.

Think Sam will try to use his bike prowess to open a gap or gamble that he can outrun Dreitz, Leiferman and Hanson?

Last time he raced Leiferman in an Ironman I believe was IMLOU where Sam got off the bike with like a 5 minute lead and Chris ran something like a 2:43 to take it by the end.... That was a while ago though.

Nikic through 20 moles on the bike, averaging 15.7 mph. Should be fine with the cutoff, right?

Hansen needs to be dropped if these guys want a chance....these guys are not outrunning him after his 2xsub3 hrs 10km swim+42.2km run in Woodlands heat last month....but but but...but Drietz leading a train in the fall and no Lange in tow....my head is about to explode!!!

I think that depends on how hard they're biking. If Sam is choosing to stay with the pack, a lot of those guys might be overdoing it.

For using flats, he's cranking. Everything comes down to the run I think for him, because his bike fitness is pretty good.
