First off, I apologize in advance if this has previously been discussed;
Are the upcoming IMWI and IMWI70.3 being held ON THE SAME COURSE?
I looked on the site for race updates and found the 70.3 course has changed from Olin park start to Monona Terrace start (same as the full).
Does anyone have any insight? Are we looking a 5,000 athletes (hard to imagine even sans pandemic) on the same course at the same time? Which race would start first or all at once in waves?

Yes, held on the same day and same-ish course. The bike is modified slightly for the 70.3 to cut off the jaunt though mount horeb, the garfoot descent, cross plains vs the full. Same stick, smaller loop, same stick. Run course the same (1 vs 2 loops).
Chatter (but i can't remember from who... i'm not being cagey) was that the 70.3 was starting first. I also do not think they are expecting 5,000 people on course.
From a volunteer captain email i was on earlier this year... who knows if still current? - IRONMAN 70.3 Wisconsin and IRONMAN Wisconsin will be help on the same day - Sunday, September 12, 2021 at Monona Terrace
- Transition will likely be in the parking ramp (levels 3 - for 70.3 and level 4 - full)
- The 70.3 race will start at approximately 6:40 AM with the full distance race to follow, approximately 7:20 AM. The course will be 1 loop for 70.3 and 2 loops for the full distance race.
- Have 1238 athletes registered for the 70.3 and 2700 registered for the full.
- Some volunteer positions that have a higher touch point will be eliminated in 2021 which means athletes will be expected to do more "self-serve" than in previous years.
- Temperature check-points, run by volunteers, will be needed for athletes, volunteers and spectators
- Face coverings will be enforced for spectators and volunteers. Athletes will need face coverings until the start of the race and they will need to put one on before they leave the finish chute
- Volunteer grants will be available to volunteer groups of 15 or more
- No in-person athlete briefings, in-person volunteer meetings, banquets, or awards.
- Athlete check-in will likely have scheduled times, registering approximately 80 athletes an hour over 2 days.
