IMWI - Spectator Logistics
Just signed up for IM Wisconsin and am hoping to get a few questions answered about race day logistics for my parents.

What are the parking/roads like on race morning? Is it easy to find parking near the start so they are able to watch me start/T1?

If they are able to park near the start, will they be able to get out of the area to possibly catch me during the ride on one of the loops? What about getting back to the start/finish line area once they see me for the last time on the bike course?

If they aren't able to find parking, does the shuttle take spectators to and from the start or is it for athletes only?

Thanks!

Parking race morning is pretty easy, lots of garages.

Spectators can take a bus from downtown to Verona where the two loops start, etc.

Having a hotel downtown makes all the difference in the world if you can still scrounge up a reservation. Your parents will have a place to spend a very long day.

There is a shuttle bus from the arena parking lot into downtown and a shuttle out to Verona. The shuttles are available to anyone.

It's very easy for spectators to park, watch the swim/T1, drive out to the loop and see bikers twice, then get back into town and see runners multiple times due to the run course layout...

Would definitely recommend staying downtown if you can. Race morning gets a bit crazy with the blocked off roads.

I believe there are shuttles to watch the bike as others have mentioned but staying near downtown will guarantee your parents can spectate the swim and all the loops on the run.

Plenty of parking downtown as others have noted, and even better if your folks are able to score a place to stay near the race venue at this point. The helix is a great spot to watch the swim and also the run up to T1(probably the best place for them to see you in the swim) and easy to walk to several points downtown to see the run.

The one year that I was a spectator we had a rental car and were able to bounce around the bike course, so I can't comment on the Verona shuttle. Good luck!

We might all have different ideas of "near" the start and road closures can make it a little difficult to get around. I mostly agree with everything above as long as your parents don't think they are parking a couple of blocks from the helix and getting out of there easily to drive to the bike loop.

It's hard to beat State Street for spectating the run if they don't mind a crowd. Just a couple of blocks from the finish line and runners pass four times.

Thanks everyone for all the information! I didn't realize there was a shuttle from downtown to Verona. That might be the best way for them to get out to the bike loop. They've been to a few of my races so they know how what to expect out of the day and won't have an issue with crowds. I think I'm going to have them use the shuttles. Not sure if we will stay close enough to walk to the start but we'll see.

Will my parents be able to get on the shuttle with me when I head to transition? I would think they would do racers only for a little while and then begin to allow spectators onto the shuttles once we get close to the start time.

Once you get on the run I'd suggest the use of the "B Cycles", which can get them around all over the campus and downtown area. If they can get to one of the big hills on the bike course they'd get a fun experience that few other races offer. If they get to town earlier than just race day, drive out and check some spots out to see if they can get there. Even Uber drivers are a possibility if the shuttles don't get there.
