My MTB friends think it's light, and that's good enough for me.

I would think it is a combination of your weight and the bike's weight that would affect your hill climbing. Losing 1.5lbs on your body, would in theory drop 1.5lbs from your total bike/body weight when climbing. Same weight loss if your stripped 1.5lbs from your bike. Other thoughts?

How about 'dropping weight from your bike and dropping weight from your body can both be done utterly independent of one another'? You made it sound as if you gotta choose between the two... Why not drop all 3lbs in this example?

Imagine what it would cost to drop 1.5lbs from your bike.

According to Velo magazine about -$800. ;-). Or at least that was the differenece between two road bikes they recently tested. The cheaper bike was about 1.5 pounds lighter.

I call bulshit! (In the nicest way possible) I have a 7.5 and there is no way its under 20.

That information was from last summer so I weighed it again this evening. It's still 8.4kg. By the time I've taken a few centimeters off the steerer tube, fitted the new pedals; I changed system over the winter, and fitted the Omega brake when it arrives, It'll drop another 100g or so.

I'd take yours back to the shop and ask for a lighter one. In the nicest way possible of course;-)

Well, I have a new medium SC 7.2 and it weighs in at approx 18.6 lbs based on my bathroom scale. Swapped the aero bars and base bar for a full zipp setup I bought in a weak moment a few years ago (blew my bike frugality creds for that year!), and swapped the wheels for some Rolf Vigors. Includes one bottle cage (I do long rides on the road bike and no long course racing, so one is enough). Swapped saddle for a Cobb V-flow but that added weight. Otherwise, stock Sram stuff that came with it. No draft box, bento box, rear bottle cages, etc. etc.; people add all that stuff and wonder why they don't have a light bike.

Of course when I get my Flo 60 race wheels I'll be adding almost 400 grams so that will bring it back up way over 19 pounds.

It goes up the hills much better than my old P2K (not that the 10 lbs I lost over the winter has anything to do with that, lol).

P3 Al
Vision base bar
Deda aerobar (soon to be vision ski bend)
404 clinchers with wheelcover.
Adamo Race

Never been weighed, but it's less than my SoftRide Rocket TT with H3s.
It's fast enough, even on hilly triathlons.

To be truly useful, you'd want to have people weigh their bikes "as racked" at a race.

x1

WAY LESS EXPENSIVE TOO!!! Unless you can't lose any more weight, then it's your bike
