Hokas and run cadence
Anyone switch to Hokas and have their run cadence slow down? Before I switched to Hokas I was running 170-180 footfalls a minute, depending on pace. I feel like Hokas have more cushioning (and maybe a bit more return) but my turnover is slower. It hasn't changed my pace much overall. The Hokas seem to have changed something about my gait but I can't say specifically what. Anyone else notice this?

It’s possible your cadence change is due to proprioception. If your cadence has slowed, your stride length has increased (You said pace is neutral). The longer stride length on the same pace will increase the force on impact. That wouldn’t feel good in the shoe you used to run in, but it feels ok in your new maximal shoes.

Hello

what shoe did you use before ?
what Hoka do you use now ?

From my experience it is depending more on the shoe type than the brand.

My VF4% was pushing me heelstriking > reduce PPM
My Bondi 6 is a bit heavy and slow transition > reduce PPM
My Carbon X, midfoot strike + carbon plate > increase PPM

Before - I was running in either Saucony Kinvara or Newtown Distance shoes

Now - I use the Hoka Rincon

I was thinking the model of the Hoka shoe does matter as well. I do feel like the Hoka shoe makes me heelstrike more

I’m going thru the same situation.
180spm with Nike Pegasus
165-170spm with hoka cliftons

I think it has to do with the way the foot land (more heel striking with hoka).

I have lower spm with hoka, my stride is longer for sure, but I haven’t got any tightness in calves like I used to do with the Nike.
