High Ankle Sprain

Two parts to my ankle(s) story:

Suffered mild grade 2 high ankle sprain (left foot) March 2008 but wasn't diagnosed til Sept 2008 (even though I had it looked at in March by a Sports Med). After October and November's physio, laser, acupuncture - little improvement so my Sports Med is having me see an Specialist this week. MRI revealed some very mild joint irritation.

Dec 26, 2008, someone tripped over my (right) foot while I was sitting cross-legged and much to my horror - same type of pain, just above the ankle. The pain is mild but very nagging and is the "high ankle sprain" type of pain. No bruising or swelling and I can walk on it, but the pain is there all the time.

Anyway, I don't want to make the same mistake I made all summer by not rehabilitating ASAP so I've been wearing my ankle brace since this happened and I'm booked in for physio later this week.

Does anyone have any success stories about healing from a HIGH ankle sprain?

Also has anyone heard of Prolotherapy?

My left ankle is still extremely bothersome and I'm now worried this right ankle is going to give me the same problem for months/years to come.

Thank you.

how did you get your initial high ankle sprain...i don't know how much i can help in your rehabilitation but i work in a biomechanics lab currently studying high ankle sprains and they confuse me....they seem like a normal injury mechanism but the fact that no lab to date can experimental recreate a high ankle sprain on a cadaver model is very interesting....maybe it just comes down to bone quality and muscle contribution....

???

Sure, "high" ankle sprains are a pretty common injury (and notoriously slow to heal/rehab). I'm sure you have looked online about them? Now, how was this diagnosed initially and now 9 months later?

I'm not so sure about your length of time and "treatment" though (laser, accupuncture and now considering prolotherapy?)

I have a high ankle sprain (and a mortons neuroma on the same side which i can manage). Had the sprain about 4 months and just started running easy every other day(few twinges when i run but nothing distressing), bit sore after when i'm sat at work, i do ice it in a bucket as soon as i get in office. Doing balancing and band strengthening and calf raises too. Anyway when u returned to running did the soreness stick around for a long time? Just trying to get a real answer from someone who has actually experienced this annoying injury. Please answer, actual experiences are very valuable to my recovery mindset.
