Help please... leg pain when jumping/plyo etc.
Searched to no avail... Have ridden on average 200 miles weekly for 30 years (now turning 57). My issue is difficult to articulate but when I jump up to catch a ball or do a burpee (attempt something explosive), when I land my quads lock up and I can't move because of the pain. The pain is sharp initially and then transitions to a burn/almost "pins 'n needles"... Sometimes when I start to ride I get something similar to the point I pedal in circles until things improve? Thinking chronic nutrient deficiency but wondering if anyone else out there has endured something similar...

Many thanks.

Your description sounds like acute neuropathic pain to me. You really didn't state where the pain is located. I would be putting a nutrient deficiency near the bottom of possible cause.

Really appreciate the response... my quads lock up femoris, lateralis etc. Jump up to catch a ball or something similar and when I land I can't move... walking first thing in the morning is kinda slow as well...

Again, thanks so much because when I tell people about it they start dialing the psychiatric hospital...

So to be clear, I understand the quads are locking but where is the "pins and needles"? Also in the quads?

I would get your back cleared first and then clear any peripheral issues. I would seek out a pain specialist preferably who also is a Physiatrist or has a sports medicine background.

Good Luck!

Very sorry to not have thanked you for your response. I never thought to see a PT because I was run over in 2015 and the rehab left me "scared" of PTs lol...

Never even knew about Physiatry ...

Many thanks because the pain/limitation is still there and the only thing that makes it go away is complete rest (and I only average 12 hours/week riding so I don't think it is an overuse thing).

Best regards.
