Help me choose a wheelset
I’ll be buying a disc brake frame in the near future. I want to get my accessories during the Black Friday events and was wondering which of these you would go with?

HED Vanquish Pro
Rear Disc + front 80 ~ $2600

HED Vanquish Pro
Rear 80 + front 80 + jacket ~ $2100 + 100 for cover

HED Vanquish Performance
Rear + front 60 + jacket ~ $1400 + 100 for cover

Flo
Disc rear plus 77 front ~ $1900

One of the things that’s confusing is I don’t know the difference between the HED pro and performance wheels in terms of quality or time.

Is there even a 2 min difference between any of these wheels in a 70.3?

I started with a 60/90 combo. I ditched those and just went with 90/disc as my only wheels. Love them. So, I would choose one of the two deep/disc combinations and not do a disc cover.

I have had both HED and FLO. Both are fantastic. So, the choice between those comes to budget and cosmetics.

I have heard grumblings of good performance with the wheels from Premier. I can't confirm, I have never physically seen them

They would be $1535 for disc+88mm.

Maybe someone has info

I'd get the hed vanquish pro 80 + disc if you can, or the performance 60 + pro disc if you're not a super confident bike handler. The 30mm outer width of the hed wheels will pair much better with something like a 28mm gp5000, which tend to actually measure 28 or 29mm on a rim, and IMO the comfort I feel while riding a slightly wider tire both for small bumps and improved handling is quite nice

I don’t see anything on your website about disc brake wheels?

It will be interesting if the people responding to this tread could add few details about themselves and the kind of place they ride.

Ex: i'm 160 lbs, i use Enve 7.8, love them on the flat... it's terrifying descending on crosswind. I will love to get a disc, but pretty sure i will die if i get one.

I had Flos on my old P3 and really like them. Well built with great customer service. Still have them while I contemplate a new TT rig.

I currently run Boyds on my main bike and really like them too.

I’m 175-190 lbs depending on time of year. I have no issues with handling and 90 in front is fine for me. As far as where i ride, 95% of my training is indoors. My races can be anywhere.

What’s the difference between the pro and performance series?

A little bit of weight it looks like. Plus the pro has an 80, the performance doesn't. So if you want a 60, get performance, if you want an 80 go pro.

Is disc cover even possible for disc wheels? Wheel builder says it is not compatible

I don’t know. A disc cover on a disc wheel may not even be an option.

I looked into this a while back and it looks like this company https://ezgains.co.uk/...ts/disc-cover-700c-1 has disc covers for disc wheels. You are right though that Wheelbuilder does not.

To the OP, I would suggest getting a disc and not a deep rim with a cover. Disc covers are great, I've used them for 10 years, but they are a bit of a hassle before and after each race if you don't want to always have a disc wheel and if you race a lot. I covered stock wheels so it was a very cheap way to accomplish a disc wheel. But if you're choosing between $2600 and $2200, pay $400 more to have the disc. Easily worth that money in time and hassle over the course of many years.

How much time am I giving up over a HIM by having a 60/60 vs a disc/60?
I would like to know what the extra 1000$ is buying since I’m not in podium contention.

I did not publish it.

It always seems so difficult to post results...people just think it's marketing. The testing was done by Brian Stover at the A2 tunnel about a month - maybe two months ago.

I really just wanted to know for myself so I could speak with confidence.

Our wheels are super fast and very well made. We are right there with the very top tier wheels available.

Having had the pleasure of riding your rim brake versions for 3+ years, I can attest that they are durable fast wheels.

I don't have the knowledge to answer how much time a disc is worth over a 60mm wheel. I'm fairly certain it is usually greater than zero though based on what I've read over the years.

Is it really a $1000 difference though? I was looking at the first two options you listed. $400 difference between disc and disc accomplished with cover. I would guess that it is about that same difference or even less as you go to the cheaper sets Vanquish Performance and Flo. I'm just saying that if you race say 5 times per year over 10 years, avoiding 100 interactions (on and off for each race) with the disc cover would be worth $400 to me.

Well FLO says their disc wheel saves 4h 18min over a 140.3 compared to a box section rim so you can make some assumptions. Box section rims are much slower than a 60mm and you're talking 70.3. So certainly less than 2 minutes difference. Between 60/60 and 60/disc.

Do you have any plans to make the wheels wider? You're offering good value but 25mm/26mm is quite narrow, especially compared to the HED that OP is asking about.
