ESI tape! I hated electrical tape too. This stuff is silicone and comes off easy with no residue. https://esigrips.com/silicone-tape/silicone-tape

I cut the end of the tape at an angle and superglue it into place.

Have you thought of using no tape?

I took it off and barely notice the difference

No superglue needed. The trick with electrical tape is that it will not stay stuck if it is put down with any stretch. The ends will always start to come up if there's any stretch in the last turn of tape. I'll usually do two wraps of electrical tape at the end of the bar tape. First turn is applied with a little stretch to get it nice and smooth. Second turn is put down with zero stretch to it. Use good electrical tape like Scotch Super 33, and not the cheap stuff and it won't come off until you want it to.

Try this: start wrapping in the middle instead. Wrap down to the bar ends and then wrap a little past the bar ends - enough that the bar end plugs fit tightly once the excess is stuffed in. Install them and, voila, no tape needed.

I second this suggestion.

I also recommend silicone tape for finishing bar tape. It works great.

Looks like basically the same stuff I have used.

I have also used the below. It has some texture for grip, but it is a bit more fragile.
