I'm officially untexanized and am a PAC NW fellow now...the training conditions in Central WA are absolutely amazing...but come on...why are people saying hi all the time? Why is it 101F? (and why is everything so much more expensive than Texas??)

Ah, E-burg. Know it well. Hope you get used the smell of cow crap wafting throught the air in the summer/fall. I'm in Wenatchee.
How'd you end up in E-burg? School?
You oughta do the Whiskey Dick triathlon. No joke on the name, look it up.

When you drive back to Yakima (assuming you're still getting a place there) drive through the river canyon. There is a pretty good marathon that starts near the mouth of the canyon and finishes at the other end. Little bit of a longer drive than the freeway just because you have to slow down all the time.
Also there is a 5k in Moxee in a couple of weeks if you run. Home of 'Hops' as in beer ingrediant.

Yes. I received my worst sunburn ever on that dang river.
Once you settle in I can give you some restaurant recommendations if you like Mexican food. My family lives in the lower valley on a farm.

ends up in Central Washington State. May god have mercy on your soul.
Glad you made it there safely (with or without your stuff). Cheers!

Welcome!
We've got a nice Oly Tri in Coeur d'Alene next weekend (http://www.cdatriathlon.com) if you're up for a scenic 3-hour drive.

Welcome indeed!
I was a late winter/spring transplant from NM to the emerald city, but yeah- the conditions here are completely fantastic at the moment.

NM to Seattle. Is the culture shock over yet?
Re: Hello Pac NW [sufferman]
[ In reply to ]
I only lived in NM for a year so it wasn't all that bad of a move, I was ready for this one.
Among my various moves, the ones that completely shook my world were:
Peru to New Jersey as an early teen (first time living in the US long-term)
Denmark to Kansas as a young professional (one of these is not like the other of these)
I quite like it here, and I hope to set down roots. Ideally I'll stay at least 3 years?

NM to Seattle isn't so bad a culture shock...I did Paris-Montreal-Paris-Gold Coast Australia - El Paso, TX - Central WA ;-)
And honestly, it's not really a culture shock...folks moving to Africa, South America, Asia, etc....from Western Europe or NA, now that is a big change...and even then, it's a matter of finding the good things.
When I moved to El Paso, everyone was saying 'yuck'...and I really liked it (and still do). Sure, no great food, except if you love MX food, no cultural events like in Paris, but great outdoors, friendly folks, etc.

No hops. That was my uncle. I grew up on a cherry/pear/apple orchard near Zillah.

Ah! I knew you were hiding something!! The ride up to Wenatchee in 97 is absolutely amazing...one of the most fun rides I've done in a long time!
You go over Blewett Pass? Is a pretty road, but sometimes a lot of trafic.
