Has your dream bike been made yet?
Hey all, so there a a stack of different bikes out there, but has your dream bike been built yet?

I like bits of different bikes and i guess i haven't seen a paint job yet that i think would be better then any other

What would your dream bike look like
My thoughts would be:

Zipp Vuka Bars.
Dura-Ace SRM cranks
Zero Gravity Brakes
A frame with a custom paint job
The Chain stay and hanger like the Look 596
BB like the Scott Plasma
Fork like the 596
I would have a bit of a blend
Weight about 1.1kg for frame. 1.5 for frame fork, headset seatpost

Wheels: Zed Tech Sub 9 and 808 front

Whats yours?

Everytime I get a new bike I tell my wife it's my dream bike until I start pleading with her for the next one.

hmmm. i'm going to wish for a few things that don't exist yet in the following list(in no particular order):

- flat top tube like the scott plasma
- hidden front brake like the jamis
- pocket for the rear brake like the kween-k
- super deep seat tube(80mm?)
- a good rear wheel fairing(Felt D/A? see next)
- no gap between the rear wheel, seat stays and seat tube(felt DA?)
- elastomers under the seat like the 596
- elastomers under/on-top of the headset to take a little more of the edge off rough roads
- integrated, adjustable stem like 596
- electric D/A shifters on the base and extensions
- look 596 crank without look pedals(while i prefer shimanos now, can you say, Aerolite?)
- infinitely adjustable fore/aft seatpost head
- easton deltaforce base with BW wrist relief ext(try to keep the cockpit under 500gms, more carbon?)
- third brake lever(maybe, unless they make a carbon lever that's less than 25gms)
- HED C2 100mm powertap rear, HED C2 60 front
- carbon brake levers that are mostly straight and weigh less than 75g/pr
- a cut-out seat like the SMP Evo/Composit but without the bird-hook drop at the nose.
- bontrager/arundel bottle/cage on the down tube
- hydrotail w/two bottle/cages?(for those long rides)

ok, now that you got me thinkin', i'm going to go completely out of the box:

- belt drive
- ultra-light-weight hammerschmidt road crank(forget what i said about the 596 crank)
- shimano nexus 10spd internal rear hub.

oh yeah, it can be any color as long as it's a fast color, like say, Black ;-)

Probably a bastard son of the Look 596 and the Cat Cheetah.

Considering the efficiency and ease of use of a chain drive, why would you want a belt drive?
The nexus, while having the "more aerodynamic" chainline and hub brake, would come with a considerable weight penalty.

The Cat Cheetah I don't like, due to it's reliance on 650c wheels. I'd like someone to reissue the Hotta, with slight updates incorporating what we now know about bike design.

My dream bike has already been made. It's my Elite T-class. The only improvement I would ever make on that it needs a bigger engine. I'm working on that.

I would say either the Cervelo R3 or the RS are about as close to perfect, a road bike as I have ever ridden. For me they do it all.

Yes, it's been made.

I never thought I'd covet a road bike, especially after purchasing my dream TT Litespeed Saber. But there was Litespeed demo workshop after a local race and, just for laughs, I had them fit me and build up an Archon. I thought it looked funny, kinda geeky, with that top tube and head tube junction and the PAINT (!!!) over the titanium. Still, I took it out for a 30 minute ride--the sweetest ride ever. For whatever reason it just had that FEEL.

Of course I can't afford a Litespeed Archon and may never be able. But 14 months later I still remember with goosebumps that ride. And with time I've come to like the way it looks, especially with the subtle red accents.

Yeah, the Cervelo P4

Its the clear winner aerodynamically, pretty sweet looking, pretty light, and has the sweetest way to deal with hydration/spare storage of anything out there.

the p4 is pretty good... but i think if cervelo went non-uci legal, and they could use a bb that was thinner than 68mm (e.g., how walsers use a 50mm bb), they could make something even better.

i don't think the UCI governs BB width. otherwise Gerolsteiner would not have been able to race in their Walsers all these years.

Hi there macka86, while you're at it, you may also want to include Power Cordz on your dream bike. They work great with Zero Gravity brakes, will shed a few unnecessary grams and provide a higher level of durability, i.e. they won't corrode or fray. Just wanted to throw that out there to ya all.

Take a look.

The nexus, while having the "more aerodynamic" chainline and hub brake, would come with a considerable weight penalty.
the belt is quieter and lighter and is as efficient as the metal chain
and lasts three times longer.

using a nexus-type hub - some of the weight would be offset by
the belt, and not having a rr-der or front-der.

yeah, the hammerschmidt crank/bb would be heavy too.

Nope...my dream bike still does not exist.

Maybe if I took the seat tubeless comfort of a Kestrel Airfoil Pro (or KM 40/500 SCI), Softride, Zipp, or Titanflex...
...then added the aerodynamics and structural strength of Cervelo...
...incorporated both the nutrition/water bottle aspect as well as the "parts" aspect (need to hide this out of view/wind as well)...
...sent it to Colnago for a paint job...
...allowed me to ride as forward as I need/like to (81 degrees or so?)...
...and yes, hiding all the components yet making them still fairly easy to change (brakes, cables, etc.)...
...having electronic "button" shifters on both the aerobar extensions and the base bar (aka Mavic Mektronics of about 10 years ago)...

that should just about do it. Of course, it also must be made at a pricepoint that allows me to realize my dream :-)

No it isn't, or to be more clear, the belt/hub drivetrain system is not as efficient

No it isn't, or to be more clear, the belt/hub drivetrain system is not as efficient

so explain to me why(or cite tests that show that) a belt that's
lighter and quieter and doesn't stretch is less efficient than a
regular chain. granted i'm buying into the marketing-speak,
but belt driven gears are more common, survive much greater
abuse in automobiles and motorcycles than bike drivetrains.

you should try telling that to the Harley/Buell guys. it'll be
interesting news to them.
