Has anyone tried the kiwami trail running shorts? UPDATE with review.

Decent compression shorts with pockets are hard to find. I’ve been intrigued by these: http://www.kiwamitri.com/product-p/trails.htm

However, they’re a bit spendy so was hoping for some testimonials before pulling the trigger. Available discount codes would be awesome too...

Thanks!

UPDATE: I got the shorts and wrote a brief review after one run down below.

Yup. I have both the shorts and the knickers. Both are awesome. I wore the shorts for a (mostly) solo 50km (that ended up being 60km) of running that I did to close out a big block of running I did last fall. Huge fan. The compression around the middle is really, really nice for long runs.

Thanks, glad to hear they’ve sold at least one pair to a satisfied customer. My only remaining concern is the waist band. It seems like it goes up pretty high. For a runner with a little more belly than he should have do you think it will be uncomfortable or chafing?

Actually, Andre told me it was designed with the idea of spreading the waistband (a la female yoga type clothing). The thing that is also cool is the waistband has a number of storage pockets under the flap, so great way to carry gels or whatever. The very front of the waistband also has a "pee" hole to make that easier. While I have not worn mine, the compression seems really, really great. I love my Spider items for that very reason and these shorts take that to another level. Really well made.....

Update after getting the shorts. Since there were few replies from people who have tried them, I figured a brief review upon receiving them was warranted.

I got the shorts yesterday and did one run today, just over 7 miles easy on the roads. So not exactly a thorough test yet.

First impressions: really well thought out shorts and very nicely made. All the stitching is good and the pockets are in good places. While they are undeniably pricey, the workmanship is clearly there and they are made in Portugal, so I feel the price is not unreasonable.

Kiwami clearly does not do vanity sizing and they fit as expected from their size chart. I am a medium or large in most sportswear but the XL fits perfectly on the snug side. The back zippered pocket fits a pixel2 xl, which is a pretty big phone. The side pockets in the waist band just barely fit a 500 mL soft flask. It sort of hangs out when full, but I jumped around the kitchen and it seemed to stay put. Didn't test it on the run, though, given the short length. Don't know if the pockets are smaller on smaller sizes. If so, would probably be limited to a 250 mL bottle in each pocket (three of those big pockets), which is enough for most any run.

On run, they are super comfortable. The high waist band felt good, though my skin up there isn't used to getting rubbed. After 7 miles it was a little red, but gone quickly and no real chafing. I think for a longer run I might body glide there until I get used to it. Really excited at the possibility of long runs carrying two flasks, phone, gels all in the short.

Overall, I'd say I'm really pleased with the shorts. Looking forward to putting them through their paces over the summer to see how they hold up.
